hospice was mentioned in my dad's oncology notes. I didn't hear the doctor bring it up but it was in the appointment summary as if it was discussed.
Could you help me? I'm Inot sure what this means and I am very overwhelmed at the thought. Should I begin to plan a leave from my work to spend time with my dad? What is hospice? Do they stop treatment? Is it like a home?
thank you.

Here is a link to a very good, comprehensive article from cancer.org explaining Hospice, Palliative care and their focus on the patients quality of life. 🙏 <3
My grandmother had colon cancer 20+ years ago and we had hospice care for her at home (my parent’s home). I can’t speak to your father’s prognosis and I don’t know how hospice works where you live, but they were amazing for us. Their support allowed my grandmother to continue living at home as her cancer progressed, which is what she wanted. I have nothing but respect and gratitude for the gift they gave us. Wishing you and your family all the best. 🙏🏻 If you have any questions about my experience with hospice in my area, please feel free to reach out.
if you haven’t read Hope for the Best: Plan for the Rest by Sammy Winemaker,MD, I highly recommend it. The first chapters are probably not going to be as helpful to you but chapters 10 & 11 have been very helpful to me in judging the timing of my husband’s decline. Remember, Jimmy Carter has been on Hospice for almost 2 years now.
I have noticed comments in MyChart that were never told to us…perhaps they have “ cut and paste” info? In any case, you need to know more from the doctor’s office.
