has anyone who failed xtandi and zytiga have good outcome with chemo- does it completely eliminate the cancer or do you still have to take things after - how does it work when it stops - also can you take it in smaller doses?
chemo : has anyone who failed xtandi... - Advanced Prostate...
chemo
Yes, chemo works after castration resistance. In fact, a new trial showed that it can keep Xtandi working again even after it has failed:

Unfortunately, it doesn't cure PCa, but it can delay progression, extend life, and lessen future pain.
As Tall Allen says it is not a cure but can delay progression. I had 6 treatments with Taxotere (Doxytaxel) and it held PSA in check as well as radiographic progression but progression resumed after treatment stopped.
Yes, chemo can be delivered in smaller doses. DH had 1/3 dose weekly infusions rather than the full dose every 3 weeks. A reduced dose might be used in cases of neuropathy or to prevent other side effects. Hubby went onto Pluvicto after docetaxal. And “Lupron for life”.
I cannot speak to failure of the medications in question. I was advised that I could take treatments in increments...that being medication first and chemotherapy later if the medications failed, but it could be less effective at that point.
I was advised, and submitted to, triplet therapy up front was the most effective way to knock it back...
Lupron and Taxotere combined up front. Followed by continued Lupron and Zytiga.
After one Lupron and two Taxotere treatments my PSA hit < 0.1. and has remained there for two additional PSA tests over the course of four additional Taxotere treatments and another Lupron shot.
I have had a third Lupron shot mid March and have been on Zytiga and prednisone for the past five days... I'll have another PSA draw end of April... Fingers crossed...
