PSA Roller Coaster ride!

Back a couple days ago, I posted a question about my PSA being undectable since July 2022. (<0.01) then this month is up to 2.22. I asked what is next etc. I had an appointment with my MO on 19 Dec 2023, they generally do lab work at the cancer center before they give me lupron. I ask them if they would do a PSA draw. they did. It came back @ <0.01. What do we do, one lab said 2.22 the other undetectable. The Dr said we should still move forward with a PSMA-Pet Scan. So I have it scheduled. Then check the PSA in a month.

Today I received call from my Nurse, she had a call from the Lab that I use and said that they found out that their machine was out of calibration. They had it recalibrated, and when they ran my PSA this time, it came back <0.01. I am praising the Lord for the results, even if it has been emotional.

I am very grateful for the out-come. But what a emotional roller coaster ride. Hopefully I can keep it down yet for a long time.

thanks for listening

The old saying "Hitting my head with a hammer because it feels good when I stop" comes to mind.

Great to have that cleared up before the Holidays!

Out of calibration eh? That's some error. Sounds more like pilot error to me. Who cares though. The result came through in the end. Good for you.

Great outcome! Just an FYI for others out there. My Med Oncologist says lab errors are common. I have had PSA at <.006 (undetectable) for over 5 yrs following RP, ADT and 8 weeks of pelvic radiation. However, on two occasions if had readings that were still low but not undetectable. On both occasions my doc said they were probably anomalies and don't be concerned. However, that first one worried me until a retest three months later. The current one is not a "worry" like that first one though I still wish it did not happen. The first one was in 2021; the second one is this month; however, though not "undetectable" per se the current one was still incredibly low at .014. My MO won't test me again until Feb or so next year but I am praying it turns out a lab error.

Thanks. Interesting. I have a standing order in my portal that I can print off whenever I want to check my PSA, so far I have not got it checked until the Dr wants it. Back earlier in this journey, I would get it checked once a month. That got to be a emotional up and down also. I get it checked every three months right before I get lupron.
