AI again: prognostic and best treatment tool
This sudden surge in AI news is interesting to me since a lot of this work has been going on for years. AI is all the buzz now. The one issue I willhighlight is that in order to obtain the biomarkers, genetic tests will need to be performed, which undoubtedly will increase the cost of care. All in a world with dwindling healthcare budgets. While I am in favor of advances in science, the economics are an obstacle, IMHO.
One of the characteristics of deep neural networks (only one of machine learning tools) is that they can find hidden paths in data that we already have and that is anyway growing quite quickly. That’s what these guys are doing. The first artificial neural network was the perceptron in the fifties. The big obstacle has always been the cost of computational power, in fact AI came back in the nineties and even more early 2000 because of cheaper and more powerful computers. When quantum computation will be widespread enough you will see a huge jump forward because training these systems will be lots faster.
When they loaded the AI computer with a picture of an elephant standing next to a naked native, it spit out this famous question "How do humans eat peanuts with that thing?"..
Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
