Simple fixes - outside the box

Many of us are aware of some of the SE of the treatments our guys are getting. A few of them are currently affecting my hubby. He can barely speak above a whisper. And he’s losing some motor control of his hands. And of course tiredness. Hopefully this is temporary.

Most of us here probably don’t have a vault filled with gold so we need simple inexpensive fixes that help our guys. And you know that if the items have the words MEDICAL DEVICE it means that they charge us more.

For the voice volume problem we have two options that we use. Since we have two floors in our house, I am often upstairs- FIX- we got a wireless doorbell that uses a battery operated bell button cost about $15-which he keeps with him when he knows I’m going upstairs. The doorbell itself is plugged into an outlet upstairs. The second fix for downstairs is a bit funny but it works well-FIX- cowbell…yeah we have a cowbell. Cost if purchased $10-Got it as a joke from a friend who said “you need more cowbell “. He rings it when he is in need of assistance.

As for the motor skills and tiredness it’s a dual issue. He can’t hold the stylus for long periods of time or he falls asleep. He keep dropping his pad stylus and it sometimes falls to the floor. FIX- sunglasses cord/tether from the Dollar Tree cost $1.50. Push one end of the cord onto the stylus and extend the other side to make a loop to put around the wrist. (See photo above for the type similar to ours)

Have you any suggestions outside of the box for other issues you’ve dealt with?

Cargo pants! My husband was on crutches for a while after his hip fractured. The numerous large pockets allowed him to carry around everything he needed.

I knew this clip was coming 🤪. We have the SNL dvd of that episode.

Also I’m known for MacGivering stuff where I have worked in the past. Especially when a replacement part wouldn’t arrive for a few days and we needed to work now.
