New MO Phoenix Arizona

Good morning, Warriors,

Last week I learned that Pluvicto had failed. I had an appointment with my MO at the Mayo clinic in Phoenix.

At the beginning of the appointment, my MO , Dr. Alan Bryce, informed me that he was leaving Mayo Clinic. He said I would be assigned a new doctor.

Two weeks have past, and no word on who the new doctor will be.

My questions to all of you is do you have an MO in the Phoenix area that you trust with your care for significantly advanced prostate cancer. Please let me know. Sure appreciate all your help and input.

Tom

We are in the same boat. We received an email last week that Dr. Bryce was leaving and my husband would be assigned a new MO.

Yes my wife and I went to see him several times three years ago when I was looking for a second opinion. We liked him a lot, but I was afraid to leave the care of Mayo Clinic.

I forget, where are you on this journey with our favorite friend?

Do you find Dr. Wong has all the required backup services to meet your needs? I appreciate your input.

Dr Wong fought hard for my husband to get on Pluvicto. He was the first commercial patient (not on a trial) to receive Pluvicto at Banner Gilbert. Getting insurance approval for scans alone was a lot of work. My husband received all 6 Pluvicto treatments there and tolerated them well. Labs were monitored closely. We didn't get long lasting results. Started chemo 3 months after finishing Pluvicto.

His nursing staff and NP are knowledgeable and caring. We get labs drawn, doctor appointment and now chemo at the same facility. There have been a few tests outside of Banner at Sonora Quest. These were for our convenience as we're in Northern AZ.

We did start this journey at Mayo. For insurance reasons we needed to change shortly after to Banner. I can honestly say I'm grateful for the team we have now.

The only negative I can see is that he works Monday-Wednesday mornings. It may be hard to get in to see him.

Best of luck to you Tom in finding a new MO. Keep us posted and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks so much for your input. It is so valuable. What was your husband's PSA when he started pluvicto.? What was it when he finished? How long did it stay down until it started moving up again. What chemo is he on now? I am in the exact same spot and very curious. So appreciate your input.

It was 92.93 when he started his first Pluvicto treatment August 25. It was 1.98 before treatment #6 on 3/15/23. 3.81 on 5/9

5.21 on 5/30

8.45 on 6/20

17.1 on 8/01 - chemo started

13.2 on 8/23 - chemo #2

11.39 on 9/12 - chemo #3

He's on cabazitaxel now. Was on docetaxel prior to Pluvicto. He's tolerating it well. The plan is for 2 more treatments and then radiation treatment to mandible/eye socket area.

That's our plan so far. Xofigo may be an option in the future but need more healing time after Pluvicto.

Hope this helps.

I have no MO referrals, but as a fellow Sun Devil (ASU Alum) I just want to wish you the best of luck.

Have you had a gene panel? My husband did, and it came back negative. Then he received an email for a different gene panel. This one came back positive for 4 gene mutations. As a result, he qualifies for different treatment.

Panel was called…. Fulgent gemline precision medical multi-gene cancer and AMG panel. (188 genes tested)

Wish we knew this sooner!

Tom- Get genetic testing! This can potentially identify alternative treatments! Many, if not most men on this forum have. Demand it!! My hubs starts new treatment next week. I’ll keep you posted

Also, a test result can determine whether your children or other relatives should be tested, potentially saving their lives.

OK - thank you. Tom

We’re seeing Dr Moore at Mayo.

Love her but the administration and billing is terrible. With all this stress they don’t seem to get it together.

Do you have prostate cancer?

I’ve been with Dr Bryce for 5 yrs after I came from Kwon at Rochester Mayo. I like Dr Bryce and sad to see him go, but not going to leave Mayo. They are a class organization and I know whoever I end up with will be great. And another MO Chair may come in. Stay the course for me.

Will do survivor. Thanks so much for your input Tom.

Tom- how have you been? Since this post, we have left our care at Mayo and have begun seeing Dr Bryce at City of Hope which is an 8 min drive vs the hour to Mayo. After my husband’s Re challenge of Docetaxel, we will monitor his levels monthly - but next treatment will be Pluvicto - I’m just not confident in it 💯 but Dr Bryce says since his SUV levels per the PSMA tests are high he thinks my husband could have good results
