QoL: Mixed media painting, 'Two trees, four textures'.

Really this was just playing around with my materials. It was fun. The composition is meant to invite each viewer in turn to examine each tree as a separate painting -- a kind of stand-alone. I hope you enjoy them.

On a darker note, I have an appointment with my oncologist on Monday afternoon to discuss whether my Xtandi has finally failed me and if we shall be moving to intravenous chemo. She has not disguised the fact that chemo would only be buying me time, and probably less of it that more. Ho hum. For the sake of both me and my wife, I need to be kept as distracted (and light-hearted) as possible.

Love the painting. Could tell us more about the painting? Size, materials used, etc.

The painting was 40 cm X 30 cm. The materials used comprise one enormous list:

For the support: 200 lb watercolour paper; white gesso, transparent gesso; white tissue paper; some cartridge paper

For the colour: professional level watercolour paint; Schmincke super-granulating watercolour paint; gouache; oil pastel; Brusho; acrylic ink; granulation medium.

For texture: wrapping film; a scalpel for sgraffito.

I think that's about it. I didn't list them in the caption for fear of losing the viewers!

Thank you for accepting the position of artist in residence for our group. Your work helps lift my spirits.

I like the experimenting with diff techniques in this painting. In addition to the trees, I was particularly taken by the effects you used to paint the bank.

In the 70's I had the opportunity to take a class in watercolors from a excellent multi-media artist. I took the class because I wanted to open up my art which to that point had been primarily pen and ink and charcoal. My final project was a large (Imperial sheet) painting of the stone heads of Easter Island. I've always been fascinated by them and I spent so much time perfecting the effects to capture the age of the stones, the dry grass blowing in the wind, etc. before I ever started on the painting.

When I finished the painting I was sure that it was my masterpiece, the painting I would be remembered for by my instructor. When time came for the unveiling, I proudly presented my work, to complete silence. I'm colorblind, and my wonderful Moai were surrounded by red grasses (in a color not known in nature), and several other items were miscolored. I quickly switched to Fauvism, I can't go wrong with colors now.

Sometimes real grass is brown (during the winter) and sometimes it has to be spray painted green for a top Dignitary to review,,,, (true).....

I tried for long dead brown winter grass, and got long dead red grass, never thought to spray it green

Another lesson learned from the Good Humor king
