It's been a year since I was diagnosed with stage IV PCa with a PSA of 165 and 6 years since I was first diagnosed with PCa. That was quite a shock to my wife and me. I am so thankful that my work health insurance paid for a 2nd opinion from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN on my diagnosis. They recommended that I have the triple treatment of chemo, Lupron, and abiraterone + prednisone.
Chemo was not a fun experience, but like a lot of you here, I got through it. taking Lupron and Abiraterone + prednisone was ok but I can live with the SEs. I didn't accomplish much at all last summer. I also got diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes with an A1C of 6.7
Currently, since last July when I finished chemo, my PSA has stayed at <0.1. I was able to get my A1C down to 5.7 by losing 80 lbs. and eating right. I had to buy new clothes because I shrunk so much. I'm still getting Lupron shots every 6 months, Xgeva shots every 3 months, and I take abiraterone + prednisone every day. My notion is that we've got my cancer knocked out for the time being and I want to keep it that way.
I still have some SEs, (neuropathy, fatigue, and hot flashes), and trying to keep my weight down, but I'm still able to do what my lovely wife wants me to do 😃(and what I want to do). Life also got easier when I retired at the end of last year. Now I get to sleep late most days.
Every day I thank God for my wife, Susan, who's been my rock through this last year. I thank God for the excellent medical team and the treatment I've received. I thank God, that I'm still here. I don't think about things too far in the future anymore. I just try to be kind and make every day a good day. God will take care of everything else.
Take care,
Tony
