My dad is on xtandi and psa went from .69 to 1.2 - now Dr wants to give a PSMA scan- he had a ton of others scans which showed no change even when psa went up- can someone explain what the difference is with PSMA scan vs Axumin or other scans- I'm just really confused why all of a Sudden the Dr wants to try this- can some explain in layman terms please! I just do not understand the medical jargon that well- Thanks

The PSMA scan is more sensitive than the other scans and will most likely detect the cancer lesions.

Here's a layman's description:

Thanks TA! That is an excellent, and understandable, explanation of the efficacy of each type of scan. I will be having this discussion soon with my MO, and will have the chart you included in the article with me when we speak!

I just had a PSMA PET scan a couple weeks ago. The difference is that the PSMA scan detects PSMA (prostate specific membrane antigen). There are different drugs that can attack those cells as well as some clinical trials which are using your body’s own immune system to attack tumor cells that express PSMA.

Hello, I can’t tell you what is the exact difference between a lot of the different scans. I started my journey with only having CT and bone scans in which they only showed involvement in my pelvic lymph nodes. About halfway through my journey I finally had a PSMA scan. It showed I had quite a bit more involvement with tumors in my upper chest and neck area that was never found with the previous scans.

Also, the Xtandi did not work for me. I got my PSA to drop for about one month after starting it, and then my PSA immediately started to rise again.

Best of luck to you

I am in the process of chemo now. Not far enough along yet to know how it’s going.

PSMA diagnostics, Pylarify e.g., are modern medicine. All other imagining tecnologies are OBSOLETE.

psma has the best sensitivity and specificity. At all psa levels. Even those that are low. Sensitivity means ability to detect something abnormal specificity means ability to detect nature/cause of yge sbnormality. In this case Prostate cancer

I like PSMA PET/CT scanning too, but other diagnostic scans are hardly passe. PSMA PET/CT scanning is not 100% accurate. Not nearly. And corroboration of PSMA PET/CT spots with MRI scanning and bone x-rays is needed, along with good old fashioned biopsies. No doctor would prescribe treatment based on any one scan, nor would insurance approve it.

when and if I hit 80 and show a PSA of a 1.2 I would be thrilled.

I was part of the PSMA GA-68 scan trials of at UCSF. I have a very low emitting PSA detection. I was getting very small but doubling PSA rates.. No scan could find where my cancer was. The trial scan found more than 10 nodules in my lungs. Very unusual for APC to metastasize to there only, but that's where it was found. A life extender for me I'm sure. Be grateful and take that scan. It's a game changer.

PSMA radioligand diagnostics-Pylarify-are FAR FAR FAR superior to all other imaging technologies. Pylarify will detect upto 95% of all prostate cancer cells in the body. Other technologies at best detect upto 70%. Pylarify is current science. Other imaging tecnologies are obsolete.

PSMA radioligand treatments are FAR FAR FAR superior to other radiation therapies. Pluvicto is current science. Other radiation therapies are obsolete by decades.

PSMA radioligand theranostics obsoletes prostatectomy and radiation for newly diagnosed prostate cancer.

FDA shields obsolete legacy financial investments and blocks effective modern medicine from ill Americans.

Read science articles on internet.
