Hello all, wondering if anyone has had a missed diagnosis of bone mets after have the bone scan?. I have read that this is possible and that an MRI is a better way to determine if bone mets are existing.I was told my scan was clean however the bone pain is very real and it has already spread to my lungs and lymph nodes.I have the pain in my ribs, pelvis and thighs and cant walk more then twenty feet without it becoming extremely painful. Thanks.

PET scans are much better at finding mets than bone scans, and at lower PSAs. Read this:

I just got an appointment in October for 68GaPSMA 11 CT PET at UCSF to find the source of my BCR. These new scans are great advancement over older scan techniques. It’s across the country but my son lives near LA so another chance to see his family and hit the little white ball.

Yes , I had a bone scan in April that came back negative, was sent to MD Anderson in Houston to remove my prostate and bladder and before the did the surgery they wanted an MRI, found Metz to spine and nodules in my lungs

Yes, I had PET scan pick up a few spots bone scans did not. Told bone scan can miss smaller spots.

I agree with Tall_Allen: ask for a PET scan with Axumin. This will pinpoint the mets.

I had an Axumin scan in April that only found cancer in my prostate. I had a simple MRI in June for some neck pain that found mets. These new scans are great, but not perfect!

Yes we are in that same position my husband had bone and CT scan as a routine check up 6 weeks ago and we were told bone scan was clear. Within a week he developed back pain which we thought was a pulled muscle and took regular pain killers things got really bad and was admitted to our local hospital in Uk they did an MRI and found multiple mets on spine, one is extremely close to spinal cord. He is now an inpatient at the cancer hospital receiving radiotherapy. He cannot lie down and has not slept in our bed at home for 4 weeks he has had to spend the night in a chair. We hope that radiotherapy will sort this out.

I had my prostate removed in April. Ductal Adenocarcinoma Gleason 8. <2 mm focal posterior margin on prostate but posterior fat negative for cancer. pT2. 3 month PSA <0.02. I have had lower back pain for about 3 weeks. Could I have mets with this low of PSA?
