Starting relugolix / Orgovyx

My healthcare provider indicated they wouldn't prescribe Orgovyx and to use Lupron instead. Has anyone dealt with this? Are there ways to get the meds cheaper from Canada or elsewhere? Any insight would be great.

My rationale is that Orgovyx may have fewer side effects, and concerned as I still go to work every day and have to deal with people. I always work out aggressively and don't want to ensure that I don't have harmful side effects.

Odd, my MO wants me to switch to Orgovyx from Lupron and cites several advantages.

Would you be able to tell me what those advantages are? My father has been on Lupron for over a year now and he has such debilitating side effects and we would love to find a better alternative. Thanks!

Less deleterious impact on heart (I’m a high risk heart patient), more quickly leaves your system as it depends on a daily oral pill, no painful injection requiring a doctors visit. There were others but can’t remember

My healthcare provider would prescribe Orgovyx, however, my insurance doesn’t cover it. So I just accepted Leupron. I chose the 6 month injection. We are about the same age and I too am physically active. I am one of the lucky ones as I have experienced essentially zero side effects thus far. I have read terrible accounts of men on here and the SE’s they have experienced. Everyone responds differently, perhaps you will encounter few side effects as well.

I was on lupron 30 day injections 3 of them total, then the first 90 day shot crippled me for a week or so with severe sciatica (old injury that had went to sleep for a few years). Armed with that I got doctor to prescribe Orgovyx and insurance to cover it (insurance wasn't needed as I got MGH grant). you can also get it from manufacturer through their

patient assistance program.

Orgovyx has a patient support program both for a full ride on the drug or a reduced cost if you have commercial insurance (not Medicare). Check out their website they are most helpful.

I brought it up with my RO and he said their standard of care is Lupron because they have 20 years of history with it and it works. I didn’t push back and will get my first 3 month injection next week.

If I suffer side effects I may revisit but to me this was not the biggest issue in the battle.

If you tell him you have developed an “allergy” to Lupron (leuprolide) he will be forced to change it.

Yes, I had a previous back injury and it has dogged me since 1981 until a decade of Chiropractics finally made it go away. Then I must have got an injection right in the psoas or piriformis muscle because it locked me up solid a day after injection. Took me a week to realize I couldn't stretch it out so saw my favorite Chiropractor Dr Gary Kane and as usual he made it go away with two treatments. I told my OC and asked for Ogovyx so he put the order in.
