hello husband Res enjoy had bone scan done along with some Ct scans done. I have basic knowledge of medical terms so I can understand some things. I’m including a report from bone scan. I would like to know what they are referring to on the section I have circled. #2 thank you.

He may have metastases in different parts of the body. Bone scans may light up in inflammatory processes and no definitive diagnosis for mets can be made.

Discuss having a PSMA PET/CT which is approved by the FDA and paid by insurance. This studay have a higher sensitivity than bone scan and CT scan and it is usually highly specific for PC metastases.

PET scan was completed June of this year.

What did the PSMA PET/CT show? What was the value of the PSA in June and when he got the bone scan?

The PET scan results confirmed the following areas. Right hip, lower spine, along with right side of the iliac bone.

On the bone scan, what is lit up other than the right leg (above the knee), the tailbone, and the spine?

It appears to be in facial area but not as bright as other areas this is

That would be a strange place for a metastasis. Was he ever hit in his face? Plastic surgery?

no he has not.

any major dental work or maybe tooth implant in past?

If there is no correlated image on the CT, it is probably just a false positive (which are common on a bone scan).

Is he on Xgeva or Zometa? Wondering if it is inflammation related to OJN.

nothing.

Hello, the uptake in the face is probably benign, can be inflammation in the sinus, or dental related, no worries for this,

The only positive find is the distal right femur, does he have a knee prosthesis? This can be a fracture or met, needs x-ray

Thanks for sharing images…a PSMA PET is a good test, shows bone and node mets, if any

best!

just prior to my dx, i crashed on my mountain bike and then another crash on my moped (don't ask). My chest lit up like broadway on the CT scan - after a lot of rumination, the RO concluded it was a cracked sternum from my lack of riding skills. I had a follow up CT two years later and all was clear - so as people have said above, the std CT just looks at bone activity and is very non specific - the PSMA/CAT scan is the way to go.

good luck

yes I’m figuring they will possibly want to do another PET scan. Although it’s only been 5 months . Not sure if insurance will approve. So soon. We are not assuming the worse yet. But he has never had no surgery’s or Broken bones no dental in the fascist area. I just found the report odd and wondering what right face meant.

I had something similar in my bone scan, "activity at the maxilla on the right," and they called it possible dental or sinus disease. Turned out I had an abscessed tooth, which I have since had fixed after using the bone scan to help convince my dentist that something needed to be investigated. Plus I had some occasional sensitivity in that area of my mouth before and after the bone scan. Don't know if this could be a possible explanation for your situation, but this is what happened to me. 😲

crazy to think a bone scan had to be used to convince a dentist. Thank the lord that’s what it was for you. Husband has dentures .

I appreciate you reaching out with possible suggestions. Let’s hope it’s a sinus issue.

I know, right? It took me over a year and the bone scan report until I finally convinced the dentist's dental technician to take a periapical x-ray of the tooth in question because during other visits it didn't happen to be sensitive when it was probed on that day, but the periapical x-ray finally showed the abscess that the bite-wing x-rays missed. BTW, I don't go to that dentist anymore. ☹️

I hope that your uptake is just a sinus condition or some other minor indication.
