I wish to know that if anyone treated solely with radiation for prostate cancer has had a urolift after years of remission and were there any problems with the urolift?

what's a urolift?

I had radiation, both IMRT and Brachytherapy. I had great difficulty urinating and my Urologist suggested a urolift. It was not covered by insurance at the time so he charged me cost which was very reasonable. The procedure was basically painless, just the noise of the gun was frightening. The results were very good. My urologist said that the Urolift was specifically developed for people who had been irradiated (the inventor's father) because a TURP was not advised on irradiated tissue.

Then I had a "doctor" shoved a catheter through a false passage into my prostate and inflate the bulb. Did extensive damage and I was transported to a real hospital in great pain. The urologist there was not as concerned about a TURP on irradiated tissue and probably had few options so he did one. I have not healed completely yet.

So, yes a Urolift can be very effective and much less intrusive than a TURP. My husband also had one for BPH and is pleased with the results. Dr. Greer in Edmonds did both of ours. They are now covered by insurance. Probably everyone does them now but I would travel to Edmonds for Dr. Greer. He is a tough old guy but also very pleasant and compassionate. A great sense of humor too.

I had a urolift installed and sorry I did. Didn’t help much and now is in the way when scans are done. I had radiation back in 1998. Every scan mentions the interference from the urolift. I would gladly take it out

i don't think you can take it out without a lot of damage. do not understand how it gets in the way. did you have a lot of them?
