Has anyone had “salvage” cryotherapy after the radiationn fail?

tim,Good story…however, my story is different. having cryotherapy now is “ salvage” since this is a recurrence…additionally, i would be having whole gland not focal cryotherapy that Ryan O’ Neil had…

Never had to go that route. At this point, I have not read in your bio how you are dealing with micro-metastasis through systemic treatment. What does your Medical Oncologist recommend?

GD, i had 6 months of firmagon (adt)…i was getting depressed and my i was itching (dry skin ) but not really any hot flashes!

At this time i am under the care of a RO not a medical oncologist…

I was offered cryo after failed radiation with BCF and SVI. The doc said the success rate was maybe 60-70% but with urinary retention and possible other complications like irreversible ED and bowel issues. So far, I'm holding my own on IADT.

I was on firmagon for 6 months and was getting depressed. However, i will need to again start at some point.

Not sure however, with firmagon…

How long have you been on and off ADT?

Billy, I am not critical of your treatment path, yet I would ask your RO two questions. “Doc, if you were in my shoes, what would you do?” Second, “Tell me about micro-metastasis and how it relates to me.”

GD,My PSMA shows nothing outside of the prostate.

I am not sure from your post, but are you saying that there would be micro-metastasis…From all the information that is known, my RO is fine with me having salvage cryotherapy. He is saying that with how my PSA is that it is unlikely that there is any metastasis…

Scott, I am not seeing any responses from guys who had it. At least not on here. I have a BCR after having been ok for 16 years. I had EBRT back then. I have been offered salvage high dose brachytherapy as well as salvage cryotherapy. It’s confusing since both of them have side effects…and so does being on ADT…

I am scheduled to have it done in June by Dr. Aaron Katz at NYULamgone on Long Island. However, i am not sure at this point to have the cryotherapy…

Cryotherapy seems like a blunt instrument to me. I wouldn't go there.

Thanks! What concerns me the most is the “acute rectal pain” about 1 out of 3…We don’t know who will be the 1!

Find the most experienced MD if you go this route regardless of location, high possibility of serious side effects.

I am not sure what the problem about sending emails to my roadrunner.com account. I will look in my Junk mail…anyway, i will be talking with memorial sloan kettering about either focal cryotherapy or focal HIFU…will ask about side effects…with focal it sounds like less SEs than with whole gland…
