ADT and heart mitral valve regurgitation.

StayingOptimistic profile image

I was diagnosed with (There is mild (1+)mitral valve regurgitation.) yesterday. Can this be caused by my ADT treatments? Is it reversible? I never had this before I started ADT.

Thanks

Never heard that before - what does your cardiologist think?

I made an appointment to see him at the beginning of next month. The nurse practitioner called me and left a message that my test is normal.

I too have slightly or now mild mitral valve reguritation.Yes I have cardiomyopathy and high BP under control with three BP meds.

Yes, I was on my 1st ADT treatment cycle 2008 -2013 Lupron Depot, Casodex (bicalutimide),

Then my biggest event of my life occurred, Cardiac arrest May 2011.

Ahk1, every year since my SCA my cardiologists have had me do an TTE (echocardiogram) as I would think that is what you just had. Each of those Echograms 2013 -2022 all showed reported the same, 'slightly or moderate Mitral valve reguritation.

I am seeing my annual cardio NP next Friday, so I'll send her a message today and see what my multiple cardiologist team says.

I have no idea the impact of ADT long term does to my Mitral Valve. I do know Lupron and Casodex or Bicalutimide treatments short or long term have affected my cardiac arrhythmia issues big time.

Good question for my cardio NP.

Hope this helps a bit Ahk1

Sounds like a non related failure of your body. Best of luck to you, but get treatment for that from a MD not your MO.

Me too, I don't need to burn again, last time was enough. With new treatments my cancer pain is gone but I still get sore and tired when I work to much. Those darned bruised, cracked ribs are better, but still let me know they are there. Second Xofigo will be on Weds. Hope it goes as well as the first cycle. PSA still climbing though.Love you guy......Doug

Good news with the pain . Psa up? Temporary hopefully . C pain gone , a blessing . Flag had a bit of snow and grapple today helping that bad ass fire . Good luck Wednesday ! I’m driving 430 Tuesday for prolia and nuke and ct scans read . 🙏

I’m a firm believer that adt effects the heart severely. 7 yrs o it myself . My veins barely exist anymore. What does that say about my heart which is just a muscle ?? Not good. SOC docs don’t admit this ever!

Advanced cancer in general, including PCa specifically, is associated with an element of myocardial dysfunction, irrespective of ADT or other therapies. Mitral regurgitation may be a reflection thereof.

Supervised exercise training may improve and preserve myocardial function and contractility.

In addition, if one is taking any anti-hypertensives, one might discuss with one’s MD favoring a RAAS (renin-angiotensin-aldosterone) antagonist, i.e. an ARB (e.g. losartan or candesartan) or ACE-inhibitor, for afterload reduction, which may relieve MR severity. TB

Mild mitral insufficiency is a common finding with the use of color doppler echocardiography. If continues to be mild it does not have a significant effect on the cardiac function. I have had it for the last 25 years.

Add me to the list of those believing that ADT impacts the heart. In my case, it was A-fib.

It may be just as simple as just having no t is detrimental to the heart? It ain’t natural for a man ? 😳

ADT has a known effect on lengthening the QT interval, which could lead to arrhythmia. I experienced this on Zytiga/Lupron, and dropped the Zytiga. If you see a Cardiologist, mention this effect to see if you are at risk.

Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for prostate cancer (PCa) is associated with increased cardiovascular mortality and sudden cardiac death, with some events occurring early after initiation of ADT. Testosterone levels are inversely associated with corrected QT (QTc) interval duration; therefore, prolongation of QTc duration could be responsible for some of these events during ADT.

The MO ‘s don’t really want to mention or dwell on this . Imho it’s a fact .

Agree, MO never mentioned it.... but I felt it-- a longer, slower heartbeat with 30% higher BP. Had a couple of arrthymias that were scary-- couldn't shut them down as usual by drinking water and laying down. Best to see a cardio and baseline it before starting ADT.

Your heart would improve if you join the guys and sang "Sam Houston Institute of Technology" schools songs...... They need your baritone voice.

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
