I have a very good-natured oncologist near me, but he admits he is a general oncologist and when I discuss many of the treatments and new drugs that are discussed on this site, he says he will have to look into it. I like him personally, but I am afraid he is not the best option for my illness. Does anyone know of an oncologist that specializes in prostrate cancer in the South East, USA?

I see Dr. Kerry Schaffer at Vanderbilt. Very knowledgeable and personable.
You may try Dr Joseph Busch in Alpharetta, GA... he moved his practice from Chattanooga a couple of years ago....busch-center-dr-joseph-j-bu...
Dr. Busch is wonderful - but he's not an oncologist. He did my husband's MRI/biopsy when he was still in Chattanooga - I adore him but my husband didn't so much - I think because I had researched so much about prostate cancer before the appointments that when he sat down to go over my husband's results we could "talk" the same language so he addressed me instead of my husband.
As for oncologists, we use a local general oncologist because he listens to my husband and he consults with a prostate oncologist when needed (but I don't know who that is). Husband is on year 6 and we've discussed changing but as his cancer continues to respond to his current treatments, husband likes the convenience of being able to do everything locally (blood draws on the way to work, with the imaging just down the street, etc.).
Quick2019 - if you or a family member is a researcher, and can take the time to delve into treatments and options, having an oncologist that you get along with might be the best option. When/if husband's cancer gets more aggressive, he will probably switch to someone with who specializes in PC even if we have to go to Nashville or Atlanta. . .
We've had a fantastic experience with Vanderbilt.
Dr Belin, Emory Atlanta 404-778-1900. Excellent, MO, highly recommend. Specializes in PC. Good luck.
