Catheter Removed

Hello my fellow brothers and caregivers. I had my Foley remove 2 days ago and man what a relief. The biggest relief was I am able to urinate on my own with a good flow and it's clear. I went to see two other Urologists yesterday and both confirmed that due to my Pca, TURP would be the best treatment. I was hoping for the urolift or water vapor treatment, but it is unlikely. Anyway, both urologist said since i am urinating on my own , no further treatments are necessary. one urologist said the cystoscope may have loosen what ever was blocking the passage that is allowing me to urinate better. This was also said by my Oncologist who specializes in urinary cancer. I hope they're right but I'll take it. My tamsulosin has been increased to twice a day. They also taught me how to self cathere and it was nerve racking. Hope everyone is well. God bless us all- Nick

I was finally able to get a TURP. I had a catheter in place for over a year. The Foley was removed last Oct.

I was admitted to the hospital twice, for a week each time, with life-threatening blood stream infections (septicemia) during that year.

Here's the link to an article I wrote about it >>> healthunlocked.com/advanced...

Thank you forsharing your story. I couldn't imagine having that Foley for a year. I had mine for a week and each min that passed by, I wanted to yank it off. It's been two days, since the Foley was removed and so far so good. It's still feel tender down there. Hopefully it gets better soon. Hope you continue to get better- Nick

Sounds like good news. On another front when I had my catheter I got the tube caught on a knob in the bathroom while walking away. Agony!!

If you had radiation I would avoid a TURP. I have still not healed over three years later. That is what the urolift was developed for, why do you not qualify. Mine helped a lot until I had an emergency tURP from which I have not healed.

I live quite remotely so being able to pee is important. I have several catheters and also got some of the "sounds" that people use for fun. My urologist suggests self cathing two to three times a week to keep things open. So far so good.

Both urologist said I don't qualify for urolift or any other procedure but TURP due to having Pca. I really don't want TURP.

I had TURP (for enlarged prostate) 10 years prior to being diagnosed with prostate cancer. My only regret was not getting it sooner. No more nocturnal struggles to pee a drop and being in fear of going into retention. How do I spell relief? T - U - R - P !

Have you had radiation, I forget your history. If you had I strongly advise against a TURP.

No radiation. 6 rounds of chemo and Lipton shots from the get go.

then a TURP sound like the best way to get you peeing again

Since I'm urinating on my own and with a good flow, the Urologist said no need to do anything.

Hello Nickarino.... (para sa iyo)

If all else fails..... they install a giant blow up balloon instead of a foley... worse part is you have to blow it up....

Scott, having that on me was the most bothersome feeling ever.

I had the foley and tubes for 18 months brother. I can relate. I’m so happy you got off the foley. It’s a brutal gig!😔🙏

Nicnatno in reply to

There's considerable amount of pain but the oxycodone is helping. I see my urologist tomorrow and oncologists Tues

in reply to Nicnatno

Stay medicated . Pain is detrimental to healing . Keep it down . Is going to be rough until the RT pushes it away. I think it will work and you’ll get better! Good luck this week with the docs! 💪
