Hi Everyone,

Any idea what to do about the water retention in feet, stomach above navel and a lot thick mucous like saliva. Meeting onco tomorrow 17 February but saw GP this evening who confirmed the above and advised to meet onco but not to visit A&E due to the 19, 000 cases of Omicron yesterday in Singapore.

And also the very strange rash on left feet only 🤷🏻

My apologies for photo showing my legs no rudeness intended, my apology.

Thank you ❤️

Haniff

Hi mrscruffy,

Take care of your swollen ankles. I met with the onco this morning and she told me its part and parcel of withdrawal effects after chemo. She has given me tablets which will help to drain the fluid away from my body.

Thank you. ❤️

I have swollen ankles also. I had three Lu -PSMA treatments and just got a cabazitaxel treatment Thursday. The swelling has been there for a month or so.

Since scans haven't show any cancer in my lymph nodes, I'm guessing that the treatmenls are causing inflammation of the lymph nodes in my pelvis , reducing their ability to move fluids around.

My doctor ordered an ultrasound just to make sure there wasn't a clot.

My oncologist prescribed steroids after my swelling from docetaxel.

Hi Vangogh1961

Thanks for your sharing. My onco has weaned me from steroids and does not want me to be dependent on it. But I do miss the fact that the steroids kept me perky :)

Thank you. ❤️

Hi Lulu700,

No bro it does not hurt just very inconvenient when putting on my shoes or sneakers. I met my onco this morning and she prescribed me with some tablets: Lasix (Frusemide) and Potassium Chloride to help drain the water from my body. She says its part and parcel of withdrawal from chemo and from weaning off steroids.

Thank you. ❤️

I wish I had some advise. I looked identical to you after about 5 chemo infusions and for months after the final 6th infusion. My nails looked like that too.All but a couple nails finally came off about 10 months after chemo.

I hope your dr. has suggestions. Hang in there. Hoping for the best.

I too hope no one is squeamish with anatomy. Apologies. But hope this consoles others who worry this is unique to them.

How are your finger nails?

Those were not so bad. Interestingly there were ridges about a 1/16 inch apart. Each ridge represented a infusion. I did with the finger nails and toe nails have something of a double thickness nail later on. It of course cleared up.

Hi CAMPSOUPS

I met my onco this morning and she prescribed me with some tablets: Lasix (Frusemide) and Potassium Chloride to help drain the water from my body. She says its part and parcel of withdrawal from chemo and from weaning off steroids. As for the nails she asked me to use soft body cream as it is too dry. And she says the nails should grow back as normal. I see her again in 2 weeks time.

Thank you. ❤️

Chemo can cause edema which in general is due to increase permeability of the capillaries vessels. It can also cause rash. Diuretics do not usually correct the problem.

My oncologist gave notice to my edema and asked to see it at appointments but it became obvious to me that probably no treatment and if extreme then maybe there is a serious medical intervention or stop chemo. I continued chemo with edema. When I bent my legs it felt like my knees might explode sometimes. Quite a fair amount of edema. Took awhile, possibly close to a year to completely clear up.

Hello Haniff, sorry to hear that you have more to contend with ☹️. There was I hoping that you were running around playing tennis or something like that now that you are retired, I really hope that the Onc can help you.

Wishing you all the best.

Hi Phil,

Yup I thought when retired I would be:

1. touring the world

2. travelling to hopefully meet up with any one of you, that will be great and that has been my wish actually.

3. like you said play tennis, swim or walk

4. run after my rascally grandkids; which I still do actually whenever they visit.

and all of the above over and over again, but I guess the silly pandemic has put a temporary brake on it. As for the water retention, I am keeping my fingers crossed that its temporary too.

My best to you Phil ❤️

Hi Haniff,

How did you get on with your rendez vous with the Onc ? Is there anything that can be done to help you ?

Hi Phil

So my oncologist says it’s part n parcel of doing many rounds of infusions plus the withdrawal effect from prednisone.

She prescribed tablets to remove excess water from the body. So far it’s been 5 days there is slight improvement. She says there’s nothing to worry about.

Thanks ❤️

Haniff
