I believe I benefited from the advice I received here (HU), which was to ice the injection spot prior to receiving my Eligard injection. This morning, I received my first injection of a 6-month Eligard shot. I asked the nurse where she planned to give me my shot. She said that typically she administered the shot in the underbelly, so I asked her to point to the exact location, and I iced it for about 4 minutes. I utilized the sophisticated icing mechanism shown in the photo (Birds Eye Steamfresh Super Sweet Corn). I would have used Peas, but corn was all I could find in my freezer.
So, I do understand that some people have experienced pain with the shot and burning afterward. I am sorry for those and in no way want to make light of their experience. Rather, I want to offer this as encouragement for people to try the pre-injection icing, because for me, it seemed to help. The injection was nominal in terms of pain, and I experienced no burning afterward.
Thank you for the suggestion.

I am 90 days into Lupron and no side effects. The most valuable advise I got on here was that a serious exercise routine is going to give you the best outcome in your battle with PCa.
Welp … ask your Injection nurse to use one of her ice packs on the site before injection on the buttock. “ yea yea…… That’s it …. Over to the right a little …. Yea there is good , now a little up farther ….. yes that’s it ….. now down and go the left … little bit more …… oh yea !!! That’s a perfect spot ….uh huh ….. )
EXTREMELY sick right now … blocked intestines from opiates … missed taking enough laxatives to keep it unplugged. Sepsis … ugly … Got it unplugged , finally, but damage is present… trying to work thru it …
Sorry to hear that. You seem able to work through so much and I know if its possible you can do it now. Your in my thoughts and prayers. Please let me know how things go.
Thanks big guy …. My doctor says I’m extraordinarily resilient …. Something I never knew until “ all this cancer crap “ started up. Step on me and squash me like a bug , a while later I pop back up , my regular self, and keep on going. This was a hefty gut punch ( pun ) but I’m up for it seems like. I can tell you there were a couple times when I saw the clouds parting, for sure , with this one. I definitely reached my threshold of endurance, it was exceptionally nasty. Feels like every turn I make I find another surprise. I’m perking back up fast , I know this is over, …. Think this is gonna leave a bruise tho yayahahahaya yayahahahaya Just say’in. Thank you again brother .
Geezamacripe is the right word. Thanks for all the love , you’re a nice guy buddy …. A lot happening in my life “ ALL “ of it bad. Can’t catch a break , seems like. I appreciate it big guy. Thanks
Hey brother , love back ya. I spent decades training to be nonjudgmental, I never have thoughts like that. It works for me but that’s just me. I rarely feel like I would have enough first person information to do that anyway yayahahaha Never mind the death sentence cancer and awful SEs I live with daily, …….I just experienced the most intense sickness ever in my life two days ago and my home life has crashed after 43 years of marriage …. dunno big guy , that’d be enough to make about anybody crazy doncha think. Maybe if I were crazy I could just shine all of it on and forget about it, but I can’t seem to reel it in quite yet.
Yayahahahaya, it’s gonna take me a bit to get that perspective back it seems.
I’m already taking a softener and stimulant up top and a lube down town . Man …. There are no words to describe the sickness that sepsis brings ,I’ve never experienced anything like that before…. absolutely the most excruciating thing ever. I think I would have willingly “ let go “ to get it to stop and I’m a fighter clan. Gonna take a bit to recover from that and esp get that out of my mind. Starting to look like I have some collateral damage in my lower extremities too … hope it will pass , I’m starting to get real sick of Kaiser as well. Yayahahahaya.
Well it’s Christmas isn’t it …. I’m sorting thru a pretty large pile of rubble trying to find some Christmas spirit , I hope I have a couple more left , who knows … my optimism is a bit deflated right now too.
Hope you and your loved ones have a great Christmas yourself buddy … and a great new year’s too.
❤️❤️❤️❤️

So far I have taken 10 three month shots of Lupron and Eligard. In my belly, on the butt, and under arm. Didn't feel anything except a burning sensation for the last shot. Am I an exception?
Hello dac500, Apparently, there is a fair amount of discomfort in these Eligard shots for some people. There have been several posts about it, recently. It's good to hear that you haven't had any issues.
I iced with a small pack the first time because it was offered, I had no idea it was done. I could tell later it wouldn’t have made a difference to me so I just declined it after that.
However, had I thought to use corn or peas, now that’s something else entirely! That way if you find you don’t need it you have a nice snack 😀
Ha! It’s always nice to have a snack at the ready.
KIND OF FUNNY ASIDE

My 15 year old daughter, thankfully, doesn’t understand the gravity of my PC. I have softened the explanation a bit. So, it’s kind of funny that she thinks it would be hugely embarrassing to do what I did (carrying a lunchbox with frozen corn in it and then taking the corn out in front of other people and putting it on my stomach). 😀
She wasn’t there, of course, so she has no idea that the cancer treatment room/facility where I received my shot was filled mostly with people receiving chemo treatments, and they all had much bigger considerations on their mind than worrying about my frozen corn pack.
I found that the lupron made my hip sore for 2 days but the eligard is a short 1 minute pain and burning, soreness is gone in less than a half hour so I prefer the eligard. I thought the eligard would be horrible but it is a piece of cake for me.
I had 8 Zoladex shots in the old tummy. Used Elma cream. Worked well but more expensive than a bag of corn. Where I live, in the Great White North, we can’t get Birds Eye corn so may have to settle for McCains. Maybe I’ll try a bag of frozen fries. Another option up here might be to stand outside and take off your parka, sweater and shirt and then stand there for 5 minutes and your entire upper body will feel numb including your brain….talk about numbing! I’ll be on firmagon in Jan so I’ll have to try a few different numbing procedures.
Hi Nameless, Hey, different subject. I see you're a Beatles fan. Have you seen the new documentary about the Beatles? Beatles - Get back. It pulls from 50 hours of previously never seen video of the Beatles spending 3 solid weeks jamming for a new album/concert, with what was then new material. If you haven't seen it, you've got 6 hours of pure joy ahead of you. You will need to subscribe the Disney to stream it, but it's worth it. I never realized how much Paul McCartney was such a driving force with the creative part of the band. I always thought of John Lennon, but this documentary shows a lot. I liked it so much, I 'm going to watch all hours again, very soon. 🎸
Watched it all, good stuff. Yesterday marked the 50th university of John Lennon performing at a "Free John Sinclair " rally in Ann Arbor Mi. I attended and waited most of the night for John to take the stage. I was six months out of Vietnam and probably shouldn't have gone.
