I haven’t yet found anyone who has had HD brachytherapy after having had EBRT…I have a recurrence after 15 years. I would like to see what your experience has been with salvage brachytherapy after radiation….
Thanks,
Billy

I know someone who had it. So far (3 yrs ago), so good. He has to use trimix for erections, though.
T_ A,
It’s difficult to find someone who had Salvage brachytherapy after radiation…Is there a way to get in contact with him?
Thanks,
Billy
I think I have his email - I can ask him if I do.. To find more, ask your brachytherapist if he has any patients willing to talk to you.
My husband had brachytherapy years after prostatectomy and EBRT. You can read about it in his profile.
Grumpyswife,
Thanks for responding…
First, your lives together are remarkable in what your husband and you have gone through with Pca…
Questions , were there any adverse events after he had EBRT then brachytherapy?
Did he have high dose brachytherapy?
Also if he had orchiectomy, why did he have to go on ADT again?
Sounds like you now have him under good medical care…What state are you in?
I was diagnosed in 2004-5 and had EBRT…Now 16 years
later there is a BC recurrence and so currently on ADT. However, Memorial Sloan Kettering is recommending salvage High Dose brachytherapy. I ‘m in a waiting period to see what the ADT does to my PSA,,,
There are adverse events after HD brachytherapy and i want to wait a bit longer…

We traveled to Scottsdale, AZ and Dr. Gordon Grado did the brachytherapy. Dr. Grado was trying to train other doctors as well. I am not sure of the current status of his clinic. We were introduced to him when he was duel practicing at the University of Minnesota and his clinic in Scottsdale.
My husband had no new side effects after brachytherapy. He breezed through the surgery. He had lost his sexual function years before after prostatectomy. Then about 3-4 years ago he suddenly became incontinent. That could have been caused by Xtandi and/or orchiectomy or by all the previous radiation. He is finally getting some relief for his incontinence by using Myrbetriq which he had tried previously. His bowels were not affected.
He has not been on ADT since having the orchiectomy. It seemed an easier life not planned around injections. There is the negative that you can't do BAT once it's permanent.
I am not sure if he had high dose or low dose but I still have all the notes that I could dig through. He had series of boost radiations before the actual surgery. This was done at least six years ago.
We live in Georgia now and have had problems finding the right doctors here but are willing to travel.
I think you are lucky if MSK is convenient and your plan to try ADT seems like a good one.

He actually can do BAT after orchiectomy in replacement for the underlying ADT that typically accompanies testosterone cycles on BAT, so the T levels will go to castrate when the T injections wear off. Not sure if this is accepted in BAT clinical trials, but he could have it “per protocol” outside of a trial if otherwise appropriate.
