Brachytherapy and cremation

Interesting news story today. It seems patients who have had brachytherapy can have difficulty getting cremated after death. I haven't heard that before.

It's crazy. Brachytherapy seeds lose practically all of its radioactivity within a couple of years.

I have heard that too. My Dad who had brachytherapy just like me purchased cremation services. Dad's still around aged 94.

a funeral home doesn't need to know and even if they did as far as i know cremation shouldn't matter. your burned up in a sedaled furnance so no grems and once the heat does u there is nothing for it to go. bs

We have both chosen to be cremated so this is disturbing that my husband may have to choose between being treated that only extends life or choose how his death is handled. And the comments in the article made me want to reach out wring peoples necks. So insensitive and lacking in empathy.

Article from Reuters does report on cremation experience with radioactive drugs. Evidence of low level radiation was found in an Arizona crematorium. I have seen other articles that mention Lu 177. I have not seen anything mentioning possible risks from cre

mation with those with seeds.

This is simply wrong. It was thoroughly debunked in another thread.
