My hubby has been in and out of the ER many times since January of this year and prior to getting the most realization and and hormone meds. The reason for the ER visits is he was not able to urinate on his own. Initially he was clotting up and assumed the clots were preventing him passing the urine. However, last night we were at the ER once again and he had the Catheter inserted and no blood clots were seen in the large amount of urine he was retaining. Seeing a new urologist next week and hope to get some answers cuz my husband has always said he feels like something is blocked. Anyone ever have same situation and successful outcome.? I can’t seem to edit my post and correct the word realization, it’s supposed to read radiation.

Did he have salvage radiation or primary radiation? there's nothing in your profile.

Not sure which radiation he had. Prostate removed on 2004. Seven and a half weeks of radiation in 2010, and 15 radiation treatments this June/July, however his urine flow problems started in Jan 2021 prior to this years radiation and prior to the Eligard and prior to Xtandi that he just started. We are not happy with his current urologist and seeing a new one next week. Hubby has always said that it feels that something is blocking the flow. Had a cystoscopy middle of June without much to report. I just hope a doctor finds out what the problem is and hopefully not related to the cancer.
The radiation he had in 2010 is called salvage radiation because it was given in the hope of curing him after prostatectomy failed. I'm guessing that the 15 radiation treatments he had this year were targeted at metastases somewhere.
If he is not passing blood and the cystoscopy finds no obstruction all the way into his bladder, I don't know why he is suffering from urinary retention. Sometimes the ureters are blocked by the cancer and placing stents can help.
You report he’s had cystoscopy with no obstructions observed. Has he had a CT scan so that the urinary system can be examined from the bladder up through ureters and include kidneys?
Is he experiencing kidney pain?
Well if he has no kidney pain then it's probably not an obstructed ureter which is good news....
