Psilocybin for depression, anxiety and fear of death in advanced cancer patients.

Landmark studies have re-ignited interest in the use of monitored single-episode high dose psilocybin for depression, anxiety and fear of death in cancer patients. Also being studied for PTSD and other indications. The following study referenced was a landmark one for advanced cancer patients.

My state of Oregon approved a legal program of psilocybin assisted therapy in Nov 2020 and is on a two year trajectory to rolling out the program with trained authorized therapists. (I have volunteered to be on the Oregon Psilocybin Program Board.) Yes I advocate for this and have experienced in Canada.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

"Conclusion: When administered under psychologically supportive, double-blind conditions, a single dose of psilocybin produced substantial and enduring decreases in depressed mood and anxiety along with increases in quality of life and decreases in death anxiety in patients with a life-threatening cancer diagnosis. Ratings by patients themselves, clinicians, and community observers suggested these effects endured at least 6 months. The overall rate of clinical response at 6 months on clinician-rated depression and anxiety was 78% and 83%, respectively. A multisite study in a larger and more diverse patient population should be conducted to establish the generality and safety of psilocybin treatment of psychological distress associated with life-threatening cancer."

Remembering my youth - I believe it!

Heard good things about low dose psilocybin as well for depression and anxiety too.

Good info!

I took some psilocybin about 52 years ago. My pillow turned into an armless, legless man. Never took it again.

If you haven't already read it, I would recommend reading "How to Change Your Mind" by Michael Pollan.

The part of the book about the cancer patient study I read twice. To see any trial result with an effectivity in the range of 80% is really remarkable.

I also read about the ballot initiative in Oregon so was watching to see where that went. I'm glad it passed. I own a house on the coast of Oregon and we love going up there.

Yes I read that very well researched book then listened to it all again on Audible recently. It’s about time we had access to sacred plants other than cannabis to use foe personal transformation through responsible modern ritual.

Younger generations have enjoyed mushrooms for decades . We did shrooms as teens in Nor cal in the 70’s .. Now mod med is catching on to it . It’s about time . The philosophy is “ Free the mind , and the rest will follow . Dmt in any form offers a release of worldly problems and woes .At times its only temporary but sometimes the effects are for life . for life . I lost my fear of dieing from APC with my first ayahuasca event . Just one week before I got my first all clear report . There is No cure we are told for stage#4 APC .. living in fear ,ain’t living . Great post ! Thanks ..only for the open minded ....... 🏋🏽‍♂️

On my last talk to my Nat dr Uzick he quietly asked me what I thought of micro dosing projects? I think that they are fantastic and will help many . Dmt can help the mentally ill as well as those in fear .. 🤙🏽

I also got the audiobook of how to change a your mind. But recently someone told me there’s a documentary on Netflix of four episodes with Michael Pollan with the same title. I just watched all four episodes in the last two evenings, and found it extremely interesting about how they dealt with people with trauma people with anxiety from cancer and facing treatments and the possibility of death. Found it an extremely interesting view and how much more could probably be being done with these different therapies that are in trials now Take a look at if you get the opportunity it’s quite fascinating. It actually goes into much more detail than the book and does interviews with the people doing the studies and the research and the history of how all of this research starting back in the 40s through now was on and off because of the drug wars now it’s back on It’s called. How to Change Your Mind" by Michael Pollan. It’s a four part episode series on Netflix. They’re each episode is about 45 minutes long. Be careful I watched the first one and stayed up watching the other two and then finally had to go to sleep and watch the fourth one the next night.
