Hello Gents... Anyone experiencing random body bruises ? I am stage 4 and starting chemo in 2 weeks... Lupron stopped working after 5 years and zytiga/prednisone didn’t really do anything..

I’m thinking my bone mets are the bruises but most are in my spine but no bruising there... any thoughts?

Bruising can be due to excessive blood thinning by medicines(aspirin, warfarin ) or supplements...(curcumin, ginger, garlic etc.) Bruising can also be due to low platelet counts..Bone mets by themselves do not cause bruising....its the opposite.. Cancer is a high coagulation state and more likely to cause blood clotting...rather than bruising or bleeding.

Bone mets can cause low platelets if there diffuse invasion of the bone marrow by the cancer. If you have bone mets and easy bruising and you are not taking blood thinners such as coumadin/warfarin or xarelto, apixaban or dabigatran or similar, you need to consult and get your platelets checked.

I have found after 2 yrs of Zytiga and Prednisone I bruise easier. It is the prednisone according to my doctors. My blood work is always good for platlets etc...

My platelet count has been low (~82 prior to Jan 2019 Stage 4 PCa dx) for unknown reasons, and I bruise easily. During Lupron + Zytiga + prednisone treatment, my platelet count has increased (125 Nov. 5, 2020), and I still bruise easily. My oncologist's assistant speculated that my platelet increase is probably associated with the prednisone. Considering Maxx2006's Doctor's comment, the question is: Does prednisone (with Zytiga, which makes a difference of course) decrease platelets and increase bruising, or the other way around?

Part of the aging process. As we get older we experience thinning skin and fragile blood vessels just beneath the skin. A simple brush against anything is enough to bruise or tear skin. This happens whether one is Stage 4 or cancer free...... again, a simple part of the aging process.

As you say, a tendency to bruise easily is part of the aging process. But, an a quick search will validate, a low platelet count substantially exacerbates one's bruising tendency.

:)..... “tendency” is not my word.

Agree that the aging process just compounds easy bruising. Doesn't good look, but it's harmless. Note that exposure to the sun makes it much worse, at least for me.

No problem with bruising even on aspirin, until I brought an exuberant puppy into the house. Now bruises everywhere. Wouldn’t have it any other way. 🐩
