Happy Holidays Anyone had Inguinal Hernia Surgery after Full Pelvic Radiation. PSA undetectable for now My Radiation ended 5 months ago. Surgeon has an opening for Hernia Repair tomorrow My opening feels like 2 half dollar size so I wear a truss when I lift or run
My question is will waiting longer give tissue more time to heal ? Or is the damage done and waiting will not help ?
Post radiation I have more leakage but not more than 1 pad a day if that
Erections do last as long or are as strong ! 20 mg of sildenafil each night continues
Will Inguinal Hernia Repair do further damage to Penile Function
Thank You in Advance. Stay Strong and Safe

I recently (October) did a double hernia repair - laparascopic TEP (totally extra-peritoneal). The operation takes about 1.5 hours (full anesthesia - Propofol), they sew in a mesh to strengthen the inguinal channel (design flaw of male anatomy 😉). I have PCa but so far no surgery or radiation, but the doc left open the "inguinal triangle" so if I choose surgery the repair does not get in the way.
Recovery relatively quick e.g. normally 1-2 nights in the hospital, no bike riding or heavy lifting for at least a few weeks, "complete" recovery in 8 weeks. Am glad I did it and all is good.
There are a few options, so check out your surgeon (my GP recommend the same surgeon he used for the same operation, he has done something like 5,000 of these repairs). He likes the TEP - laparascopic means just a few small holes, nothing going into the abdomen reducing risk of infection. Can be done with a robot as an option, but takes longer (robot setup) and advantages minimal for this procedure. There are also surgeons who do a more "open" procedure and enter the abdomen, risks of infection and blood loss go up, but I guess there are some reasons why this is still necessary in some cases.
Just do your due diligence on the surgeon, then go for it!
