I have been advised that the next step in my therapy is to be Provenge. I would appreciate any info you have out there good or bad would be appreciated. Thank you.

It seems to combine particularly well with various types of radiotherapy or chemotherapy.

My husband had Provenge with minimal side effects. A bit uncomfortable to sit for 3 hours and not be able to move around. We found it an interesting process.

He was a little tired after the re-infusion for a day.

He completed the 3 treatments and started Xofigo following month. I have read there is discussion about doing both at once for synergy. good luck!

It had no ill effects on me physically but it was extremely

boring.

I took the Provenge treatment a few years ago. It worked well. I hated that tube sticking out of my chest.

If you browse these Posts/Replies about Provenge, you can find some anecdotal information about the treatment from members here who have had it. Most comments/replies have to do with preparations for and experiences during the 3 leukapheresis processes; some mention how they felt immediately after the 3 infusions.

My husband began Provenge about six months ago. He had a port put in to "make it easier" to draw blood and replace it. However, he got a severe infection, became septic, and had to be hospitalized for 7 days. He is still suffering the repercussions of the infections and had to stop the Provenge after round 2. You don't have to use the port - just my advice!

Had Provenge in March 2019 with no significant side effects. No port was used. Recent studies showed it is more effective when given earlier on in your treatment regimen.

I'm aCRPC and I too had Provenge early 2019 - boring but no side effects for me. I've had significant reduction in my bone mets and shrinkage of the met in my liver. MO looked at my scans recently compared to pre-provenge and said "you have very little cancer now". Is it due to provenge, apalutamide, pescatarian diet (plus avoiding dairy and eggs) or exercise? Dunno. NOTE: I did have to get a dual orchiectomy in order for insurance to cover provenge, but I don't really miss the fellas much, though working out is more of a chore w/o the T.

Herbie P. check with your doctor before using supplements but there are some awesome things you can take to help with the workout. I am using supplements recommended by my personal trainer and approved by my doctor. Of the five she recommended I was able to take four of them, she even went to an appointment with me to discuss nutrition with my doctor. Putting on muscle at a pretty quick rate, seeing huge results in just 4 months.

Care to share the supplements recommended by your trainer?

Sure, she had me on 3,000 to3,500 calories a day. It was a little much as I started to gain fat with the muscle, lowered to between 2,500 to 3,000 calories and it is right on the money. I currently take powdered bone broth, creatine, and a product called serious mass gainer with large scoop of peanut butter in a shake. All told this is 650 calories and do it twice a day. I also take BCAA amino acids when I work out. All these things promote muscle growth. Gained 1 inch in biceps in 6 weeks and now have defined triceps quads and abs. She hit a homerun in my book, never having encountered my situation she listened to me, then my doctor and fine tuned my workout program. Super happy with my results so far. Also, she saw my supplements I was taking that I bought at grocery store and made me buy better stuff on line.

Insurance requires orchiectomy to cover provenge? My boys find that very disturbing.
