Olaparib (Lynparza) adds 4.4 months to survival among men who have the BRCA mutation

An update of the PROfound trial proved the benefit in radiographic progression-free survival translated into a significant overall survival benefit too. I updated my article:

Why is 4.4 months a “significant survival “

It's statistically significant, but it is also meaningful. That is also about what all the other medicines (e.g., chemo, advanced hormonals, Provenge, and radiologicals) we have add in men who are metastatic and already castration resistant. It is a median, which means half the men do better, some men do a lot better. The men willing to try something untested in a randomized clinical trial may not be representative of the average patient in that setting.

Whenever you speak to a person who has lost a loved one, they often say, “if I could only have one more day to be with him/her”. Yet doctors say, “it only extends life 6 months. I’ll take those extra days!

I'm not into current hollywood junk..... but we watched the movie.... "Marriage Story" which I think is a remake of Kramer vs Kramer but with curse words. I am not a prude by any stretch of the imagination but the movie sucked. They also threw in a knock against the Catholic church..... and I'm not religious but I do respect other people's beliefs even though they are not mine..... (soap box derby time) sorry.

My first month on Olaparib showed a big improvement in PSA numbers..But then it just stopped working just as quickly...It also has some rough side-effects, red blood cells and hemoglobin dropping to low numbers. (I needed a transfusion).. QOL became an issue when RBC's went below 2.6..All you want to do is sleep..

Yes it is a good point Fairwind, Olaparib does tend to knock the erythrocytic cell pogenitor cells around and we do tend to overlook QOL outcomes with such treatments.
