Im new here.........My Dad has severe muscle weakness that came on so quick (2 months in wheelchair). He has bone mastitis. He has had body scan not long ago that showed nothing out of the norm. Main cancer is in the Hip. He is supposed to start Lynparza in 4 days. But he is almost bed ridden due to Legs so weak & Tingly.

Anybody have similar experience?

Can you tell us his treatment history? We could be of more help if you share that.

I had experienced severe muscle wasting in the legs and calves after my surgery and it was a difficult time building them back.

Your dad may be experiencing muscle wasting as well and it would even harder to regain it with a cancerous hip to deal with.

Can he take some NSAIDs or painkillers if he has them and do some physical therapy?

Hope he becomes a walking man again.

I am not an expert but sometimes there is spinal compression, and its serious. You say scan “not long ago”, and mainly in “his hip” but the sudden weakness on his legs is a symptom of a spinal compression.

If not diabetic neuropathy, another common cause of "tingling" can be nerve compression. I'd report all such weaknesses or sensations to my doctor. Some types of scans can show if there are problems with spinal or other bones pressing on nerves.

As he may prepare for the Lynparza pretty soon, these links may be helpful, if you/he may not have seen them before. The fact that this treatment is being considered implies that he has had some prior genetic testing done for certain mutations. I'd imagine you would want to help keep track of that sort of thing, too.

Also, with confirmed bone "mets", you might keep track of whether or not he is on one or the other of the bone protective agents Zometa (zoledronic acid) or Xgeva (denosumab) available from his local oncologist.

Just some thoughts. Good Luck in the next few weeks.

Do not hesitate to "call in the cavalry" if additional logistical/mobility help may be needed during the next few weeks.

Keep up your COVID-19 precautions and/or any testing that folks may be requiring these days before entering facilities.

Has your dad seen an orthopedist specializing in cancer patients? I think the posts above citing spinal compression as a possible explanation are very possibly on target.

I saw that your Dad is 62 years old. Would you be kind enough to tell us more about him? Location? treatments to date? scores psa/gleason? Treatment centers/location? Doctor's name(s)? All info is voluntary but it helps us help him and helps us too. Thank you!!!

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
