Hi! My husband has tried black cohash for the hot flushes.... what else can he try? 😢
Black cohash: Hi! My husband has tried... - Advanced Prostate...
Black cohash
acupuncture, transdermal estrogen, transdermal progesterone, venlafaxine
My husband is taking Sage tablets available from any health shop or on line, they seem to be making an impact, No hot flushes during the day, and only a couple during the night.
Tried Evening Primrose before that and did not seem to do anything.
I take 75 mg Venlafaxine with 600 mg of Black Cohosh at night with 12 mg of Melatonin to sleep deeper. This has worked very well to reduce the hot flashes to acceptable. For bedding I use a sheet with blanket and ceiling fan. I can then throw aside the blanket and get air from the fan if I wake up hot.
Best wishes,
Jim
The Venlafaxine seems to have so many side effects... do you suffer from them?
I have not had side effects that I know of from the Venlafaxine. The hot flashes we're a side effect that I was suffering greatly from and now they are tolerable. Might be worth a talk with your doc or others here that have tried it.
Best,
Jim
Thanks. He will bring it up at appt. on Friday. 🌞
I tried the Venlafaxine and it caused drowsiness such that I slept for 3 days. Only tried that one time. Tried acupuncture without success.
My hot flashes went away a month after stopping ADT. If I ever have to use ADT again it will be estrodial gel to avoid some of the side effects of Lupron et al.
I tried black cohash...worthless. 75-mg/day venlafaxine stopped 95% of hot flashes and sweats. It works the same day.
Thanks for answering.... do you have side effects?
Have been on ADT for 12 years. Only thing that has helped has been transdermal Estrogen. Gynecomstia is not a show stopper for me although my 7 year old grandson while in the hot tub said "Grandpa you probably should get a teenage bra". Provided a good laugh for the family that day.
Hot flashes definitely got worse when I started on Enzalutamide last year but all is tolerable when I see the great response in my PSA.
My tolerance for extreme heat is far less than before but that is easy to avoid.
Lol... out of the mouth of babes. They give some comic relief for sure!
Thank you Nalakrats. Always appreciate your intelligent input!
