A new and helpful video from Malecare on how pharmacists work with prostate cancer patients
Darryl,
The video contained good basic information that might benefit everyone to revisit. I have stage 4 prostate cancer and metastatic bone cancer. I know after the blur of some doctor visits the details of taking the prescribed medications were lost on me.
Generally, we don’t spend much time with our pharmacists. I am fortunate that my pharmacist at the VA is a palliative care doctor and has provided tremendous oversight into medications to help my quality of life. As far as my primary care, urologist and oncologist are concerned, all the ADT treatments are working and keeping my PSA low and that is their primary concern. However, on a day to day basis, maintenance of pain, sleep OIC (opioid induced constipation) and fatigue are critical for the best QOL.
I keep track of 10 medications and sleep on a daily basis in a numbers document and note what time meds are taken and time of sleep or naps. By monitoring my condition through phone consults and the numbers document and adjusting my prescriptions, my pharmacist has provided me a much improved QOL.
