Confusion over the various scans

kick-prostate-cancer profile image

I would love to get some good information/advice regarding the various scans available. If I've read previous posts correctly, my understanding is that some are much better at detecting mets early, some detect both soft tissue and bone mets, etc. Could someone help me with a simple comparison between the F18 DCFPyL PET, PSMA PET, Axumin, CT PET scan and just a simple Bone Scan? If you want to ask questions about my husband's situation, that's fine. I'll provide all the info you need ... I'm just getting confused as to what we should be requesting -- and why. Thanking all you wonderful people in advance ....

If the tumor is PMSA positive (most are) PMSA is the most sensitive test. If you are a USA resident it is only available for research studies but ur husband may qualify. USA Sites that use PMSA include (not a complete list):

----UCLA

----UCSF

----Mayo in Rochester

Also see: cancer.gov/about-cancer/tre...

This is a test that is approved in other countries including:

----Germany

----Australia

----India (a 3rd world country)

So much for the USA having an "advanced", "Cutting Edge" medical system ..... a 3rd world country (India) outdoes the USA .... just an opinion.

Here is a review of Specific PET Radiotracers .... please see pg 34 for sites in USA that perform PSMA scans. BTW Fluciclovine is aka Axumin.
