Not in this particular article but the daily consumption of iodine (available in seaweed and seafood) in Japan is over 12 mg a day. Incidence of prostate cancer in Japan is much lower than that in the West. Daily consumption of iodine in the West is much much lower. Anecdotal but worthy of consideration. This doctor has written books on the subject of iodine deficiency and the health problems associated with that. I guess you could say he is an authority on the subject.
Japanese also consume more fish, more soy, more rice, less trans fats, less wheat, less milk, etc. There are also genetic differences. It is useless to point out one difference and attribute anything to that. To me, a doctor gains authority by doing research and publishing in peer-reviewed journals. Anyone can write a book. Citing actual studies is more impressive. I am always suspicious of anyone who spouts off without citations to back up what he is saying.
Well, here's a doctor talking about iodine deficiency and cancer. Maybe something for wives or daughters to be aware of, if not prostate cancer patients.
I probably averaged 6 mg of iodoral supplement a day for a few months. No change in how I felt. I didn't want to over-do it for fear of disturbing thryroid function. I don't know if you've seen my post on how a combination of iodoral and acetyl-L-carnitine cured my Peyronies after my Urologist's xiaflex injections did not work.
Here's the post from Patrick that got me started taking an iodine supplement:
This parallels something I've wondered about recently.
Being told to cut back or try to eliminate added salt to makes me wonder about iodized salt. The once ubiquitous round blue box of iodized salt is being displaced things like sea salt. They're not iodized. Are we still getting enough iodine?
Exactly what I was thinking. Sea salt, pink salt and non iodized table salt everywhere. Needed this article before I knew anything about Pca. Low salt diet may not have been doing me any favors.
Me too, but it wasn't enough. When I supplemented with iodoral a problem I had with peyronies for over a year resolved within weeks. I'm no slouch when it comes to sprinkling salt on veggies and chicken and so forth. I ignore the advice to cut down on salt. I live in the desert. I need salt to replace that lost to sweat. I've played golf on a hot day and the salt was visible on my face afterwards.
Just saw this. I see Dr. Browstein in West Bloomfield Mi . He prescribes Lugols iodine. He wrote a book "Iodine why you cannot live without it. States 95 % of Americans are deficient.
