Clinical Trials.. Length of time? Process?

I'm curious how long a drug "usually" takes when going thru clinical trials? I understand some get fast tracked but does anyone know the process? What is the difference between Phase 1, 2 & 3. Does each phase ramp up the number of participants?

I've noticed ARV-110 with only 36 men. Its in Phase i trials. Seems low. Is that normal?

Thoughts welcome..... TA?

There is no "usually." It depends on the risk characteristics of the group they are testing in, the endpoint they are looking for, the expected recruitment, etc. Phase 1 is dose-finding; Phase 2 is usually an efficacy/toxicity trial. If it passes, they move onto Phase 3 - a randomized clinical trial in a lot of people,
