Xgeva frequency ?

My latest bone scan on April 8, 2019, showed T-scores as follows:

Lumbar spine (-2.4)

Left hip (-2.2)

Right hip (-2.0)

Right femoral neck (-2.6)

My understanding of these scores is that the first 4 scores shows osteopenia and the last one shows osteoporosis.

My local MO has put me on Xgeva on a three month rotation. I recently had a consult with a PCa specialist at OHSU in Portland, Oregon, and she recommended Xgeva at 60 mg doses every 6 months. I will see my MO at the end of this month and will see if he agrees with the 6 month rotation. Do any of my brothers on this site have any suggestions?

Yes, add Celebrex. It probably works as well with Xgeva as with Zometa. Show this link to your MO. The combination increased survival by 22%:

TA, I tried to read the study you cited but could find no findings that adding celebrex to xgeva would increase survival. Clearly, I am not conversant with the jargon used in these studies. Would you mind quoting the part of the study that shows increased survival? Thanks.

It's about adding Celebrex to Zometa. I'm guessing it would work just as well with Xgeva. "Preplanned subgroup analyses in men with metastatic disease showed a hazard ratio of 0.78 (95% CI, 0.62 to 0.98; P = .033) for SOC + ZA + Cel." The hazard ratio of 0.78 means a 22% increase in survival.

I have been receiving Xgeva 120 MG/1.7ML - every 4 weeks.

Hi Magnus,

Have you faced any side effects taking 120 mg every month?

Our doctor has recommended the same dose every 4 weeks.

However I see a lot of people here take it once in 3 months or 6. (So I’m a bit confused)...

I have not had any side effects to Xgeva. But I can see how some might. Xgeva I have been told is a very strong Prolia. Some have experienced difficulties with Prolia. My wife is now trying to decide if she should take Prolia.

Nice to know you had no side effects.

Have you ever considered adding Celebrex along with it?

My research doctor did not mention Celebrex. I will have to do some research on this.

I was doing the same for quite awhile after bone mets but after my bone density scan came out normal I switched to same dose at three months . I may move to six months. I’ve been on200 mg celecoxib for many years before PCa.

My research doctor didn't mention anything about cutting back. I'll have to ask about that.

I cut back at the recommendation of my urologist. I was on celebrex ( celecoxib) for arthritis many years before I found I had PCa.

Doctors told my husband his bones miraculously healed with the Xgeva. After many years on it he graduated to every 6 months about a year ago. Oh... he was and continue's to take Celebrex.

Hello,

Good news!!

Did the doctor recommend Celebrex as well? Or was this a self made choice?

Was he on 120 mg every month before he moved to every 6 months? If yes whats the Celebrex dose to be taken along?

Dr. Myers put him on both. Celebrex for pain and for the benefit of helping with the Celebrex.

I'm so sorry. I don't remember the dosages. I think Celebrex is 200mg a day.

Wishin all good for you :)

6 month intervals recommended for me as well.

Same dosage.

Current on lupron (monthly), Zytiga, prednisone (twice a day); now Xgeva for bone loss.

Thanks-looks we are on the same path except my doses are Lupron every 3 months, Zytiga at 750mg daily, and one prednisone 5mg daily. My MO says he will shift me to Xgeva at 6 month intervals.
