Two more rounds to go (Friday next session), progress has been good considering the extensive mets, my PSA down from 1386 g/l to 0.4 g/l in 5 months. Doctor said after this Chemo I should be good for around 9 months before needing another round.
Do they just keep giving Chemo until it stops working or the body cannot handle it anymore. How many times can you have Chemo?

You can repeat Chemo until you become resistant to Docetaxel. However, I would continue on ADT now. This could keep the PSA value low so you do not need a Chemo in nine months.
Thanks, although I managed quite well, I can see a point where you maybe cannot physically or mentally handle it anymore. I was in a bad way with pain last Nov and the Chemo has helped quite a lot, I still have pain but it's greatly reduced.
I suggest you try to get into the VISION trial. However, they seem to have stopped to accept new patients since too many patients in the control arm insisted to get the new treatment instead.
That was a great response. It's usually 6 rounds at a time (once every 3 weeks). It can be continued (with breaks) until it stops working. When Taxotere stops working, there's Jevtana.
You've had a great response to Taxotere. Congrats! You can keep trying Taxotere as a "re-challenge" or move to platinum-based chemo (but this hasn't been FDA-approved for prostate cancer). Please keep current with your scans. If there's bone metastasis you have options like Xofigo.
That's a great response! After 5 Taxotere sessions, my PSA was still in teens(840 at Dx), so MedOnc asked tumor board if they'd give me more and no one assented. He told me he would continue chemos until PSA plateaus or I say "stop" I had nine more, 15 total and only got to 0.7, but had a nadir of 0.1 the next year.
last round (6th) yesterday all went well, changed my pain meds and Thighs and Ribs feeling better for the moment at least.
He showed my first PET scan (I will have another in six weeks), he basically said the Mets are on just about every bone in my body, kinda lucky I'm only getting pain in two places.
With such extensive mets in my body, does it increase the chances of spreading to other organs more easily or is it the Lymph system that's more likely to carry it to the organs?
