In general, newer is better. I like VMAT, but Tomotherapy is also good.

Ireland has just received 5 brand new Linac linear accelerators to service the new radiation oncology wing which opens next month . We are considering getting treatment there rather than in Canada to be closer to family etc . Thanks for sharing I guess the fact the machines are brand new is a consolation ...

That is a good rule of thumb.

But depending on how different the new equipment is, you perhaps don't want to be among the very first patients using it.

Sort of like not wanting to buy a new model car in its first year.

It's more like getting the newest model computer - they don't go to the expense of improving older models unless there is a reason to. Linacs have gotten faster, more accurate, and more automatic over time.

Hi Tall_Allen

On the second of april next month i will be treated with linear Excelerator in a clinic in Köln(Cologne) in Germany it will be 23 fractions to treat my 3 spot in my lymph nodes . Before that discovery i did already F18 PSMA (Galuim 68) PET CT and the onkology decided to treat me with Linear accelerator Linac. Thanks for any suggestion.

I hope that if you are going through 23 sessions, they are treating all pelvic lymph nodes, and not just those 3.

Hi

I'm happy to be here ,the reason is you and the others have good knowledge about cancer treatment well thanks.

Do you find any convincing evidence that "proton beam" is actually -better_? I think it is too soon to reach this conclusion. The equipment is highly promoted by those centers that have invested in the cyclotrons but advertising is not proof.
