Hi Dean

I sweat a little during the night but contribute it to Lupron with hot flashes but it’s not every night

How long has this been going on?

R u on any new meds?

How are u progressing since your last post?

Stay strong!!!

Where are you at with treatments, etc.?

Well nothing has changed since last May 8th, same drugs Zytiga, Lupron and Predinsone. I have had 4 rounds for cyberknife for tumors on my spine and bladder.

When I had my CT weeks ago, they think it’s morphed into neuroendocrine PCa. Because I have new spot in both lungs, ribs, pelvis and femur.

The VA cannot get me in until March 29th for a PET/CT scan and will go from there.

But this has been going on for last 4-5 weeks. If I could just some good sleep and pain relief I would probably feel better..

I am wondering if their going to start me on chemo IV....

in reply to DeanNelson

I had the exact same symptoms before my treatment started, they went away within a few weeks after I started treatment.

Have you had any chemo so far?

If it's neuroendocrine, my guess is they would would want to start you on a platinum chemo, possibly along with Docetaxel.

Is there a possibility to get a biospy to confirm?

I think there going to want to do that after scans....

I know this sounds crazy but my brother in law bought me a foot fan on amazon and it’s amazing!! You might try it. It has an adjustable control bedside and it fits under sheets. Really wonderful game changer!

That does sound crazy. I don't have a foot fetish but figured the foot fan might help with my foot neuropathy. So googled foot fan and first thing that came up was Big Ass Fans. Laugh of the day. Thank you sir.

So Nal, should I try and do a good bike ride today and see if that gets me to sleep?..

A man in my group has had 2 acupuncture treatments and reports hot flashes are gone. Chemical remedies include estrogen patches, venlafaxine and Megace patches.

in reply to Tall_Allen

The venlafaxine will also help with anxiety...

Watch for side effects with venlafaxine. Mine were horrible. Vision loss, multiplied hot flashed, loss of balance, worse periferal neuropothy. It didn't like me at all even at 37.5 mg dose.. Doubled megace to 20 mg X four times a day way better.

I've been on Lupron and now added Xtandi for 5 years and 2 years, respectively. I've also noticed getting a hot flash within a few minutes after my head hits the pillow at night. On the other hand, I've also had hot flashes while out in the cold and dressed in warm clothing. Hot and cold at the same time! My general sense of it is that it feels like a temporary "overshoot" of my normal body heat regulation. I speculate that when I undress for bed that my body starts to react to the cool air and activates my "thermostat". By the time I get into bed and under the covers and have the lower side of my head heating up on the pillow, it "overshoots" and I feel the beginnings of a hot flash. So I just uncover for a while, cool down in the light breeze, and put the covers back on within a few minutes, .... perhaps keeping a few parts of my body uncovered to "fine tune" it as I then do fall asleep. (No actual pain or anything for me, but I do often have a creepy-crawly sensation around my central body as legions of little sweat glands jump into action to begin a hot flash episode.)

Personally, I keep a small desk fan running in the room where I sleep which provides a slight air circulation and some gentle white noise. (The closest I can get at home to sleeping near a tropical seashore paradise. Ha. Ha.) It's pretty routine by now. But I must admit that every few months or so I do shed a tear or two if a hot flash happens to hit right when I'm at the bottom of mood swing. Overall, I've not found the hot flashes to be so bad as to require some other intervention or drug. I realize that many men do have a really hard time with them, especially in summer weather.

Yes, you nailed it. I too get the getting into bed hot flash. You got that one exactly right. I do get one a little while after taking the xtandi in the evening, one after taking morning pills. And Gabapentin has taken care of the rest of them (mostly).

I, also, really only have "hot flashes" at night, but they are in the minor nuisance category. Toss off covers utill they go away. Occasionally they will come when I'm asleep, which means I'll wake up with the sweats. I'm more bothered by the chills, which only happen in the day.

I can say exercise has a lot to do with it..An old pilot friend popped up who flew with me in Central America and we had a few to many, few , few , few ...Next day I was a little blah but that night I had frequent night flashes...Day after that back on my routine and last night one! Sleep at 67 degrees , and have a ceiling fan on, since I have always been hot natured I hang a foot out and this cools me off...Since they added Xtandi to the Lupron I seem to have less hot flashes but only been on Xtandi 6 weeks so we will see. I did wrench up my exercise and make smoothies from athletic greens and fresh fruit every morning with breakfast. I have used patriot greens, and Kylea and like them all. I hydrate with water and pomegranate juice during the day in a 32oz Yetti and Gracie and I do a lot of road work..Do not be discouraged if your walking distance and speed is a little off and start with a simple bench and dumb bells if you do not have access to a gym but do it...Been on Lupron 3 years and I have had 0 fatigue...got carried away here and said this before but if it helps someone go for it.....Nalakrats is right. Hey just glanced down and saw the foot fan...go for it...Blue Skies

Will the "hots" stop if we're flying in a Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft?

I had the soaking sweats that started 3 months after starting Lupron.....and by soaking I mean the bed was completely soaked....but after a couple of months, they stopped and haven't had any sense....not sure what causes it, but that my experience.

monte1111 profile image
monte1111 in reply to jsmith2506

I had soaking sweats before I started treatment. After a couple of chemo cycles they went away. Figured out later it was the lymph nodes returning to "normal". So soaking sweats for whatever reason going away is most certainly a good thing.

A good strip mall massage parlor. It may not help with the "hots" but at least you can have a happy ending.

I always get night sweats which I attribute to ADT. It’s bad enough I started wearing PJs to prevent drenching the bed sheets.

When I had the night sweats (which seemed to have been caused by lymph nodes) I used to put spare pillow cases on top of pillow and under shoulders and replace them when I got up to pee. I remember those days now that you bring it up. Not fun at all. Hang in there my friend.

Just realize you’re not alone, if that gives you any comfort. I’m glad to read that I’m not the only one this happens to. I can count on one with my first cup of coffee in the morning, my glass of wine before dinner and when I go to bed in addition to other random times during the day. I wish they didn’t occur but I’ve learned to make light of them. No one (especially our post menopausal wives) wants to hear us complain, right?
