Hi all. I would love to get your thoughts on taking the combination of Afinator with Bicalutamide-Everolimus for prostate cancer. After trying out many of the different treatments which eventually didn’t work, my father was recently put on this and while he was feeling ok at first, in the last 4-5 days his appetite is completely gone, he is moody and down. But because he is also on some other meds including pain medication, I’m not even sure what is causing this.
First test results did show his PSA score went down from 225 to 164 within 1-2 weeks which is why he is continuing to take them despite feeling bad. He is getting it checked again this week. If you have any type of experience or feedback on this combination of treatment please feel free to share!
I would expect Everolismus to cause the side effects. In the article you mentioned it says:
"One option is to reduce the everolimus dose, because toxicity improved in the vast majority of patients after the everolimus dose, but not the bicalutamide dose, was reduced."
There is also another growth factor inhibitor, valproic acid, that may be synergistic in combination. It has only been used in lab studies, but valproic acid (Depakote) is inexpensive and has been used for many years as an antiepileptic and is also given for bipolar disorder. It may allow his doctor to reduce the dose of everolimus without loss of efficacy. Anyway, worth discussing with his oncologist.
