Zytiga dropped from part d plan

I just got a letter from my part d plan yesterday stating that they have dropped zytiga and it’s generic from their formulary. I called and the rep told me I could ask for an exception and she would let me know in 72 hours. This has brought me way down. Has anyone had any experience with this?

I literally attended a Medicare seminar yesterday (I start in 11 months) and they strongly advised us all to check your plan D formulations for the upcoming year. The formulations usually come out after 10/15 effective Jan 1 the upcoming year. If your drug is no longer covered you can change plans during the signup period. In your case You should have the option to change plans but I’m not sure what the impact to you may be since it’s after the signup period.

There are now a couple of generic abiraterone alternatives to Zytiga at lower costs.

Same exact chemical, dosage, etc

Generic abiraterone is what i’ve been getting for last two months

I wouldn’t worry too much

I don't know where you live but Kaiser covers the drug, and at least in California you can change anytime of the year because it is one of the very few that are rated 5* out of 5*. Our cost for Zytiga on Medicare was approx $2800 in January and $12 per month the rest of the year.
