My friend Johannes made this prostate cancer film six years ago. It is - by far - one of the best self produced "I've got prostate cancer" films. He recently suffered and survived a stroke. I thought to post the link to the film. vimeo.com/43481554 Please let me know in the comments below what you think.

OK, I watched the entire video. It is a remarkable achievement by a man who is traveling many of our paths. Thank you for sharing this.

I love this family, Darryl. How could one not? The wisdom of the middle son ... so hard-won in his own life ... the encouragement/support/camaraderie of Johannes' wife (also hard-won). I can see why you delight in calling him friend!

For this forum it might be nice to know if Johannes' surgery was "curative," since time has passed, or if he went on to ADT or other protocols. (Now surviving a stroke makes me wonder.)

In a smaller community like Iceland I can understand what a huge impact this film must have had. He has certainly enabled many men to face a rising PSA issue and seek treatment. Thank you for sharing this!

I agree with RJ-MN's comment about the family, and especially the family's compassionate care for the middle son who has a severe physical (but certainly not mental) disability. A very pleasant, sincere, and likable group of people.

My take away from the video from a prostate cancer perspective was:

1. The lack of discussion by the urologist or the patient about alternative treatment options, especially AS, and the difficult decision making process that most prostate cancer patients experience after a diagnosis. We were never told what the GS was, but I recall he had two relatively small focal areas of tumor in one core. A missed opportunity for a teaching moment.

2. I was surprised at how much blood was in his catheter urine bag. It made me think that with the annual number of prostate cancer cases at the time of about 220, there was no surgeon in Iceland who regularly performed RPs. I hope his surgical results were not compromised because of the lack of available good prostate cancer care on the Island. I would like to know what happened with respect to his continence and erectile function.

3. He adopted a very strict diet (no meat or fish, etc.) and he used of a variety of supplements after his diagnosis and before the surgery. I would like to know if he still follows such a regimented protocol - he clearly did not like the taste of some of his concoctions.

4. I was hoping to see more of the scenery of Iceland - I have heard it is now a "hot" tourist destination.

Thanks for posting the video.
