Does Advanced Prostate Cancer lead to increased Dental Care Procedures?

I'm trying to decide whether to get dental insurance or to just pay with cash at a discount for my dental care. The key factor in deciding is whether being on Lupron and other treatments for Advanced Prostate Cancer create more dental problems and increased procedures. Does anyone have experience or knowledge to answer my question?

Lupron doesn't but one of the drugs (Zometa or Xgeva) they often give for bone loss due to Lupron can cause jaw necrosis in a minority of patients.

And that minority is very small—in the 1% range.

Yes, the actual incidence is low but you may not be able to receive Zometa if you don't get the screening and it's not an insignificant amount.

Hi George.

Prostate cancer as such doesn't affect your teeth. However, if you are on the bone strengthening Sumeta-drip (I am sure the spelling is wrong) - I would say that your teeth as well as your nails will become more affected, more brittal. That at least was the case in my husband and a couple of other people I know.

Hi George, i can not prove it but i have had regular visits to the dentist after lupron shot & now on cosudex. Teeth & fillings just droping out,could be the time for it to just happen but i wonder.

I’ve been on xgeva for a year and was on prolia for a year along with ADT3 and haven’t noticed any impact on dental problems.

I’ve been on Xgeva for 18 months, no dental issues. Just practice good oral hygiene and make your dentist is aware you’re using Xgeva.

Thanks for all the great replies/comments. I have gotten really good with dental hygiene. I wish I had been flossing my entire life but I was not diligent in that department up until a couple years ago.
