Everything is relative

My oldest son told me today that his 19 yr old former nanny, who had an abdominal tumor removed a month ago, now has full blown lung cancer. That made me stop and take stock. Who am I to feel sorry for myself, which I do at times, as i’m guessing many of you do when no one is looking? I’m 68, with a great family, a job I like and a full life that I wouldn’t trade. I’ll accept fatigue, hot flashes, impotence and all the rest as a price I have to pay to continue that otherwise full life. Stage 4 metastic PCa notwithstanding, I have 5 yrs with a little luck and much more with a lot of luck.

Tonight i’ll be praying for that young lady before I pray for all of us.

Great point, Canoehead. Everything is relative. One should look at things in perspective.

Thanks and all the very best.

When my wife said why did you have to get prostate cancer? I said, somebody had to get it.

When I was a young teenager and had a serious health issue which was resolved by treatment, my mother said: God gave you a strong back to carry your cross. I will have 20 years in December in fighting the beast. I believe, I will get another 5 or 7 years or more.

I have diabetes, Hypertension, A-Fib, Kidney disease, in addition, to PCa. Which means I have an excellent chance of dying from a stroke or heart attack. In the meantime, have fun and enjoy life.

God Bless

Rich,

Like you, I have diabetes. Mine finally is doing well. A1C 7.7 first time that low in years. Amazing how our cancer meds drive up our diabetes problems. I pray for you and hope you do okay.

My A1C was 5.6 in mid-Jan, 2018. It hit 6.9 by end April, 2018.

I was shocked until my uro-oncologist told me it was definitely because of the hormone therapy and the radiation therapy.

I am increasing my Metformin SR dosage to 3 tablets of 500 mg/day from 2 tablets of 500 mg/day. Can go to a maximum of 4 tablets of 500mg/day, if required.

Real bummer this prostate thingy :-(

Nal,

You don't have much to worry about. You will need prayers when you reach 18 months....24 months without a BCR and the odds are you have a long term remission...but to be on the safe side I asked my alligator snapping turtle to pray for you.

I'm praying for you Nalakrats! And, I join you in praying continuously for all here and beyond for the best of days that we have, and progress in the fight to conquer cancer.

Fine sentiments Canoehead..I’m with you .. I had lived some life at 53 when I was diagnosed . To see kids and this young 19yr old. You’re right. I have no right to complain.. I’m praying for the nanny.. God have mercy on her..

You have my prayers Nalakrats! Stay undetectable and fly under the radar..

Thanks for posting this. Since my condition was upgraded to mCRPC I often feel short-changed by my limited life expectancy - but I need to remember that there are many who didn't even make it to 55.
