Bad reaction to provenge

Has anybody had a terrible reaction to provenge? Spent 2 nights in the hospital after the second installment

What kind of reaction did you have? Just wondering because my 76 year old husband is due to start this treatment next week.

This was apparently a rare event

First a wave of cold that made my teeth chatter, then lungs began to shut down. High fever. The breathing was the worst since im an asthma person. So most of all keep him warm,check for fever.

And watch his breathing!

Hi sgrama, My husband did Provenge last August and they insisted on the surgically implanted port. We learned too late that is not necessary and just adds to the difficulty of the treatment. FYI. Mary

I apparently had a reaction similar to yours on my third infusion: extreme cold, uncontrolled shaking, etc. Fortunately my wife was with me and notified the docs who were able to stop the convulsions and get me back to normal. Was told this was a rare but not unknown reaction. No other side effects. As always, difficult to measure results. However, my PSA has stayed very low. Can’t point to any one of a multitude of treatments that may have helped most.
