I would encourage men with metastatic, castrate resistant prostate cancer to consider this trial. It's using a treatment that has nothing in common with hormone therapy, so failing ADT does not appear to mean that you're any more likely to fail this treatment than you are if you've never had any treatment at all. That's important for men who have failed a number of hormone therapies already and really can't expect too much from new ones.

Like most treatments, I don't expect this one to work for everyone. It's using an artificially manufactured antibody that seeks out cells with PSMA (prostate specific membrane antigen) on their surfaces, and attaches radioactive atoms to those cells to kill them. It is my understanding that different patients may have more or less PSMA on their tumor cells, so the responses could range from not so great for some patients, to terrific for others, and everything in between.

The trial is running at the Cornell University medical school, a very advanced place where I believe they know a great deal about the science behind this kind of treatment. It's only a Phase I trial, which means that they're still trying to figure out how much of the drugs to use and learn more about its side effects, but they do plan to follow-up all patients "until death". So I think that, by enrolling in the trial, you'll get a good team of people watching your cancer.

According to the document, they're only planning to enroll 46 patients, so don't wait too long to contact them. Have a look at the document link cited by Dale. It will give you information about who does and does not qualify to enroll, and contact information for the trial staff. You'll probably be connected to an oncology nurse who is familiar with the trial and can answer a lot of questions.

Best of luck.

Alan
