So sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis. The people on this forum are so helpful and informed, I am sure someone will respond soon who has some really great information for you and your husband in terms of treatment for his particular type of cancer.
I come on here daily to read the new posts and they have really helped me to have a better understanding of this awful disease.
I am not sure exactly what type of prostate cancer my dad has but he does have it in the pelvis bone, lymph nodes, rib and lungs. He was unfortunately diagnosed at this advanced stage in Oct 2017. He has just had his first chemo session (docetaxel) and is on ADT. Its early days but he is feeling ok at the moment.
All the best to you and your husband and I hope he gets the treatment he needs really soon.
Hi and welcome to our group. Sorry you are dealing with this, but you came to the right place.
Can you please provide some more info? Things like PSA at diagnosis, Gleason score, your hisband’s age and general physical condition, has he started treatment yet (and if so, what is your husband doing?), etc. This additional information will help others provide some input and guidance.
We are pulling for you both - and praying for you!
On December 24th my husband had a turp and a biopsy was taken at that time. On January 12th, he was diagnosed with Prostate cancer and small cell cancer. At this time his gleason score was 7 (3,4) but the small cell cancer was the more predominant tumor," it is positive for AE1/AE3, synaptopjysin, chromogranin (focal) TTF1 (patchy) p63 (focal weak) CK20 Focal, The ki-67 proliferative fraction is 100%. It is negative CK7 and PSA. The foci of conventional acinar adenocarcinoma show appropriate staining for PSA ( + )and p63(-)" I actually don't understand any of that so feel free to explain.
His urologist said he was scheduling more test to see where else the cancer was. Before any scheduled tests were preformed, I had to rush my husband to the hospital on January 21st for severe stomache ache that had been happening since January 14th getting worse each day Later that day we were informed it had spread to the bladder, bones, Lungs, spine, neck and skull. Nothing in the brain. On January 21st we were told his PSA was 19.
They added bags to his kidneys as they were working too hard and started him on chemo - etoposide and Carboplatin - 3 days straight every 21 days. This was all at our local hospital but they had spoken to a larger hospital as well.
Now next week, I am taking him for another opinion at a very well known hospital and we will see what they say. I am told he is on "palliative chemo" and they hope he can do 4-6 sessions.
Welcome to the group. Sorry about the diagnoses of small cell and the fact that it has spread. The one thing I could say is you want to be just as agressive in treatment as the cancer is.
Could you please share what the first two doctors recommended? It would help us focus our responses. As someone who also has a rare, agressive cancer (Ductal) I feel that information is critical. Here are some references that may be of help. They include treatment options. One word of caution. Pay absolutely no credence to the life expectancy they may list. There are a lot of men here that have made it well past their projected life expectancy. Some by decades. In my case I have just past my past due date.
Both of the above sights have call in numbers that you can get additional information. They may be able to provide a lot more information and suggestions for treatment than I can give you.
Please know that the two of you are part of our family here. You are also part of a smaller group of men with rare agressive cancer. That means is we have to fight harder. But we are here for you! Remember, people like us we have to stick together!
The only thing I can contribute is that I was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer due to a Melanoma, not to my Pca. I am presently being treated with Keytruda in an iimmunotherapy protocol.

My father has just been diagnosed with small call prostate mixed with the usual run of the mill type. Just started platinum based chemo and firmagon. How are you guys doing?? Please feel free to share your progress and knowledge!
