within the last few weeks, someone posted something like, ''not just any statin''.
it named the best statin for advanced pca...with a link to a study?
anyone remember the name? it was a generic name, i believe...maybe lora or loro-something?

Maybe Lovastatin?
I looked into statins. I think there is several post archives on the subject. From what I have read, there are lipid based and water based statins. The water based statins may be more effective against PC because it can be absorbed into cancer cells better. I take Rosuvastatin (Crestor). Another water based statin is Pravastatin (Pravachol).
Good luck,
Craig
I used to take Pravastatin, but I immediately switched to Simvastatin when I read this study as it shows a link between Pravastatin and aggressive PCa. The link, ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
Wow. I've read research that indicate that statins are beneficial in preventing PC and some research that would indicate that they are useful in slowing down PC. This paper suggests the opposite -- that statin use can stimulate PC growth. I will definitely resist any suggestion to increase my atorvastin dosage, which is now at the lowest dose.
actually, after i looked at a list of statins, i think i found the one mentioned. it was LIVALO...generic name: pitavastatin. now i just need the link to the article that was posted by whomever it was who posted it. i have searched and searched for that same article and it's not coming up.
our doctor wants to read it, and is willing to prescribe it in lieu of simvastatin...if it is truly beneficial. he said my husband can take statins if he wants but doesn't really need them because his total cholesterol is a mere 140...but, anything that may help at this point.
I switched to Livalo earlier this year. It took over a month for insurance approval, & my monthly payment was ~$200. Within a few months, I was getting up in the middle of the night & dry-heaving. My liver didn't like it, so I went back to Simvastatin.
Statins have different affinities for fat & water. They can be positioned on a line that stretches from very lipophilic to very hydrophilic. For PCa, we want the former.
"Atorvastatin, lovastatin, and simvastatin are lipophilic, whereas pravastatin, rosuvastatin, and fluvastatin are more hydrophilic."

Simvastatin really aggravated my reflux / heartburn; made it seem like my omeprazole was doing nothing. I switched to atorvastatin (lipitor?). I've heard that anyone taking a statin should also take CoQ10 supplement -- statins reduce the level of CoQ10 which is important for heart health.
All this has left me thoroughly confused. Is pravastain good or bad?
I take one Simvastatin 10mg at bedtime and then fall asleep with my "BINKY".

Dr. Myers prescribes Crestor or its generic for his patients.
For Dr. Myers's video discussing statins, with emphasis on some of the unique attributes of Livalo (but not necessarily recommending it), go here: askdrmyers.wordpress.com/20...
