Gus,

Thank you for the valuable information.

Rich

I know I am going off on a tangent but what is it going to take to get Medicare to 'code' HIFU? The FDA approved it last year for "prostate tissue ablation" but NOT for prostate cancer treatement? WTH? Tens of thousands of men have been treated with HIFU. I guess the FDA wants to see long term effects before they approve anything. Is it that, or vested interests of surgeons and radiation oncologists, to make it difficult for HIFU to be practiced in the US?

I believe that San Diego is doing it, and maybe some others. Oh, and Rochester NY. So maybe near you by now.

And there is a version 2 (smaller focus?) .

I had this surgery done in San Francisco by a fine urologist and surgeon. My complaint is that Medicare / insurance didn't cover one nickel of the cost -- it was all out of pocket.

ah yes yes yes.

were you pleased with the results?

I assume it was a "focal" treatment. You did not have your entire prostate cooked, just parts. How small a target could they address; or did they do one half?

Did you consider going to Bermuda or Puerta Vallarta?

Not what you're looking for?
