Joe,
The original story has nothing to do with beer, of course.
There are plenty of studies that link obesity to poor PCa survival.
Unfortunately, belly fat - the stuff you can pinch - is not directly related to risk. Visceral fat is the risky stuff. The fat around organs - including the prostate. That fat is hormonally active. You need a scan to see it.
Some men score high on BMI but have little visceral fats. Some men are slim but loaded with visceral deposits. But on the whole, they do go together. Sad to say, BMI & waist size are predictive of a poor outcome.
{This may be a myth, but sumo wrestlers supposedly carry very little visceral fat & have low risk of CVD. Not sure I believe that.}

I've never been obese, always slim, usually weighed 145-155. I never drank much beer, and my belly has always been just about as flat as a table, even at the age of 64.
I do have a slight bit of a belly now, partially due to the thickening of the abdominal wall probably due to several years of Firmagon injections.
But more guys who are obese with a beer belly tend to get prostate cancer, and also bald or balding men also have a higher rate of prostate cancer.
There are exceptions to every rule, though. And younger guys are being inflicted with this, the worst disease a male can get, in their forties and fifties. I was diagnosed at 64, but must have had the cancer for a couple of years at least before I was diagnosed.
I also had a good friend online who was a doctor, diagnosed at about the same time I was, back in October, 2012. He was 46 when he was diagnosed, and died this past January 5 at the age of 49. Sometimes prostate cancer can be very aggressive.
