i was recently prescribed methyliphate 10 mg but my insurance denied it and i felt disappointed and i was told by my parent that the insurance will inform the doctor and let him handle it. I am trying to be patient but it hard because i really want to focus again and learn information again and be able to read. And my parents thinking that i dont need stimulant because i am doing so well bht they see the outside perspective they dont see inside perspective of my brain. I told them i just want a chance and see how it goes. I had history of seizures and my step mom was like you know stimulant can cause seizure but what annoy me is how my step is reacting to it my dad he said he will support me whatever i need and he will give me a honest answer. Trust me my dad is a good dad. My step mom dont think i dont have adhd or need adhd medication. But when i take it the stimulant i give her time to let her see the difference it will made. But the whole point i saying is that my doctor he know my history of seizure and the medication i had been on and currently and he know i have anxiety things like that. If my seizures is a problem he would not prescribe me a stimulant. He would find another alternative. And i been seizures free for years and a month. But back then i was abusing mucus dm and Benadryl just to help me focus i rather do mucus dm than Benadryl. But stimulant will help to focus and also prevent me to abuse other drug because if i cant find a way to focus and i crave to focus again i probably go to wrong path and i wish not to do though. I refer stimulant because it help me to stay stable and focus in a right way and therefore more healthier way to live my life.

welcome. I also put my faith that the doctors know what they are doing enough that they prescribe only what is safest. Definitely talk to them about possible side effects ya and he can say what % chance e you have of getting seizures from this. Also, is your doc your pcp, or a specialist/psychiatrist? PCP doctors are usually confident in giving these meds but I you have a specific concern like that, going through a psychiatrist and having a gene site test may help.

Thank you so much for sharing your abusing of substances and the reasoning behind it. Your insight helps me tremendously as a parent with my kid that is going to start her journey. We tried one stimulant and it started verbal tics. We have decided on doing gene site tests before going further.

Your parents do want what is best for you, but you will need to be able to navigate this stuff on your own eventually, and that is what you will need to talk to them about, depending on your age. Do your research and find out the % chances of seizures happening and the % that the meds have actually helped. Try to explain how important your thinking is and how you don’t want to be addicted to other things to try and self medicate. They could lose you altogether if that happens. No parent wants that. The more research you have the better your chances are.
