I'm 32 years old and I live in Antelope Valley, California. Can someone point me in the right direction to find support on how to deal with ADHD please. I am taking stimulants now and it does help me stay focused; but my ADHD symptoms don't just go away either and it puts quite a strain on my relationship, my work, my day-to-day life. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello serapiodela~
Welcome to the group! You're definitely in the right group for advice..lol.
I take medication for this too, but behavior and therapy have been super helpful for me. Also daily excersize helps me me stay alert and focused. And diet is also important; not too much sugar because it just makes me crash. Daily meditation to calm my mind in the morning is also a good way for me to start the day. Plus reading and learning more about ADHD has helped me to understand it better.
The following books have been helpful to me:
ADHD 2.0
The ADHD affect on Marriage
Non Violent Communication
Magazines;
Psychology Today
ADDitude Magazine- inside you can also look up good therapists in your area
I've also worked out a daily routine that works for me. When I stick with it, I feel better and have more organized happier days.
It's not easy at all. I've been really depressed at times and super sad. It's taken me tiame to read and figure *** out.
I'm now 63 and was diagnosed just 4 years ago. So, I've gone through a lot of research, therapy (some good, some crappy) and tried different methods to help my life improve. I'm happy for you being 27 and getting help right now. Hope these ideas above help you out.
Good luck on this journey called life

what kind of doctor prescribed you? If it is a pcp, ask for psychiatrist and counselor/therapist/psychologist. Those will help you process your diagnosis and look towards what you can do next. They can help you find out specific strengths and weaknesses. If you can afford it. Get an adhd coach and a gene site test to learn more about what meds work and how to better your life.

We do have an active and supportive community here. I see that others have already shared some great information.
If you are interested in connecting with other ADHD communities as well as this one, I've listed the ones I've connected with in my bio.
Like you, I started on stimulants (Adderall XR), but didn't get all my needs met. I'm now taking a generic of Strattera (atomoxetine), which is a non-stimulant, and it works better for me than Adderall did. You might have to try different medications at different dosages before you find what works best for your symptoms.
